Statistics...how did you survive?

I'm really dreading statistics. I'm not mathmatically-minded and I just bought a book on beginning statistics to try to get a leg-up with it. We really don't have any pre-requisite for it, either.

Whoa boy.

I'm actually teaching myself this through a distance education course....has to be the hardest thing I have ever done....have a solid B average right now and am super proud....will be sitting for final shortly. Good luck!!!

Kathryn

Ps....there are alot of websites that show how to do certain problems...some better than others. I would usually just google whatever type problem I was stuck on and find a few different sites to use as references.

Thanks! You most definitely have my admiration!

I'm going to commit to doing 1 chapter week before I have to actually take it. That way I won't be completely lost.

Also, make sure you are up to date with just basic algebra stuff....I really had to go back and sorta rehash that just to be able to get started....wierd how you forget stuff like what order to do the actual operations in math problems. Mostly, you'll just have to stay on top of it...I know if I don't look at it for a few days, I start to feel totally lost like I need to start all over again...which tells me I"m not really retaining it...but I'm doing good just to get through it....lol

I totally STINK at Math but I got an A in Statistics. It's really unlike any other kind of math....so just listen closely, learn the steps in the formulas and read the questions well..it's really all a matter of plugging the right ##'s into the formulas.

I don't envy you!

Stats, yuck! I hated that class. It did not help that I had the "known" hardest instructor in the whole university. However, I did make it. I had to work really hard, but I made it! :hatparty: Practice, practice, practice and do not be afraid to seek help when you need it. Go straight away for help the first time you feel like you do not understand. The longer you wait, the more difficult it gets. Do not let yourself get behind. Have faith in yourself, study and know that you can do it!
Best of luck,
~Tiny1

See I have a math phobia myself. I was going to pick up stats in January (to work on BSN prereqs) while doing clinicals. I hear it is not a fun class either. I am going to "risk it". Best of luck to you too

I don't really consider this a "math" course, tho you do use some basic math in it.
I recommend going to ALL the classes, working ALL the problems and asking for help as soon as you don't understand something.
If you follow all of the above, you should get through it. Stats is a pre-req for many, many majors... just think of all the non-math folks that do pass.

I tend to avoid all math at all expenses - and actually love stats... is more of a logic course, IMO.
