What school are you in? BSN?
Hi enigma.

Comparing pre-reqs with nursing classes in my opinion is comparing apples and oranges. Pre-req classes test on knowledge of concepts and memorization, whereas nursing school tests on application of knowledge, critical thinking and nursing process. Pre-reqs were alot of work too but just in a different way if that makes any sense.
I put more study time into NS than I did pre-reqs but I study very differently. I do hundreds of NCLEX type questions before each test from just about every source I can get my hands on. I have 2 NCLEX books, Lippencott and Saunders, so I do those questions plus I utilize the texbook CD questions, online textbook resources which often have questions, plus I bought supplemental recommended texts for each course. The Straight A's series is wonderful. I have them in pharmacology, med-surg, peds, mental health, and maternal-child. I mostly do the questions and don't study the content in the books since it's a repeat of what I have already studied in the course.
So I would say the one consistent thing I notice that's different about the way I study compared to my cohorts is that I do lots of NCLEX questions. I have probably done thousands of them. They require you to apply the knowledge you've learned and test your critical thinking which is exactly how the exams are structured.
Finally, I am in an ADN program though I am a 2nd degree student with an AA in general studies. So I've been down this college path before, though never had to work so hard in my life! Nursing school is a challenge because it is so demanding and you are stretched in so many directions all at the same time. There are classes, papers, exams, group projects, skills check offs, clinicals, clinical prep and post clinical paperwork, careplans, group projects... on and on. You are chronically exhauseted and sleep deprived and constantly wondering how in the world will you get it all done??
But just take it one day at a time, one thing at a time and somehow it gets done.

Good Luck in NS everyone!
