Hi and congratulations to all of you.
Are any of you willing to share your stats? I am trying to asses where I stand in comparison to admitted students......GPA, work experience and NET.
Thanks!
Also, for those of you in SF, why are you choosing a campus in Sac? IS it less impacted up there?
Thanks again!

Is anyone else still waiting on Samuel Merritt's Sacramento ELMSN program or on the wait list?

Hey there... So I live in the bay area and there were a few reasons why I decided to go for Sac. First and foremost, I was eager to get started. More importantly though, I did believe my chances were better getting into the program if I applied to Sac. I thought about it this way... The program starts in January, so undergrads in their last year will be unable to apply to the program (because they'll still have a semester left) which virtually eliminates them from the applicant pool. The average age of the ELMSN program is something like 32, so it's unlikely that the many people from the Bay Area who want to be in the program would be willing to pack up and move their lives to Sac. Many people are settled with families and have to limit themselves to the Oakland/SF campuses because of obligations. I don't think SMC necessarily attracts people from afar... they're just starting to take tours to get their name out there. With that said I suppose I just assumed that there is larger population pursuing nursing school in the Bay Area compared to the Sac area. The pay is definitely better around here... but anyway.

As for stats, I hope mine help you get an idea of what you're looking at. I graduated from UC Berkeley and had about a 3.3/3.4... somewhere around there. Then I completed three of my prerequisites post-undergrad at JC's and I got all A's. I was in the 93rd percentile for the NET and while I was living abroad in Greece I volunteered as much time as I possibly could (which wasn't very much) at nearby healthcare facilities. My time was spent at a local hospital and assisted-living facility where I essentially shadowed nurses. Compared to others, I had VERY little experience in a hospital setting and did near to nothing compared to what I heard others had done. I think the personal statement is an essential part of the degree of consideration you are given as a potential student. I believe it's really important to creatively express how passionate you are about the field, why you feel inclined to be a part of it and what qualifies you to excel in the accelerated environment. Everyone at my interview was unique and had something different to offer the program and student body. Make yourself a stand-out, I think it's critical. I'm 23 and felt very inexperienced compared to the other interviewees, but I made sure to emphasize that I was going to bring an incredible amount of excitement and enthusiasm to the program.

I wish you the best of luck!!
