rejected!

my brother and i turned in our applications for fall2008 Generic RN program at a local cc about a month ago. anyways, we got our acceptance letters today and he ended up getting in while i got rejected. it totally sucks because i pushed him to actually turn in an application. he's a new grad lvn while ive worked as an lvn for 2 years and have a higher gpa than him... dont get me wrong, im happy for him, but i feel bad about me getting rejected... ohwell, i guess ill have to apply for spring 2009 now.

sorry, just needed to vent.

Re: rejected!

Sorry you didn't get in. Of course you can be happy for your brother and disappointed for yourself. It does add another dimension to it all. In any case, I am so sorry you didn't make it this time and hope you can get in real soon.

Re: rejected!

What reason did they give for you being rejected?

Re: rejected!

I am really sad that you couldn't do nursing school together. I have a really close girlfriend who has taken many of her classes with me and we have applied together to the 3 same schools (all lotto schools). I think about the situation if she got in and I didn't or vice versa. It would be really hard for me to accept. As hard as it may be, just think that you will have someone that is ahead of you to help you when you need the support. It is always nice to have someone who can really relate.
Keep your head up! It will happen for you and your good Karma will come to you!

Re: rejected!

I'm assuming from the fact that your in california that your on the lottery system. Why schools here have the lottery system I don't know as it certainly doesn't benefit those with high GPA's. I guess the theory is to give everyone who meets the minimum requirements the same chance. Though I feel for those students who run out of money waiting for their number to come up and never get to go.

Is California the only state that goes by this system?

Re: rejected!

No I don't think so but I saw you were in CA and I know pretty much all the community colleges there are on the lottery system as thats what the chancellor of community colleges wants. Though there are a few hold outs such as Harbor College which goes by the date you were put on the list.

Re: rejected!

I'm not sure about the entire state (NY) but in my county, and the surrouding counties as well, nursing programs in CCs are lottery. this is fairly recent, the waiting lists at at all the CCs around me are into the 2 year wait range for nursing so even if you've been on the waiting list for a year and a half already and thought you'd be getting in for fall 08... its lottery now so you never know. this is one of the main reasons i'm not even trying to get into a CC program

Re: rejected!

I feel for you...

I can't get into our local CC either (tried twice now)... with a 3.9GPA, a 99th percentile on the TEAS and a pre-existing bachelors... so I feel your pain.

Don't worry, it'll happen soon I'm sure.

Re: rejected!

ah ok. I didnt realize any school used a lottery. Here, our school used the first people to take the PAX and get an 80% or better w/ a tie breaker of the highest grade if too many passed in the last test. The school I'm transferring to for my RN (this is my LPN school) has theirs done by date of application.
