How long does it normally take to finish your pre-reqs? I know I have atleast 5 classes to take, plus a couple more that they recommend taking if for some reason I am not accepted into the program the first time I apply. I also must meet the requirements of the college itself and make sure I take classes that will allow me to start my RN-BSN program after I pass the NCLEX exam. I am also going to be taking courses for Phlebotomy, there are only 4 classes and 2 classes are also pre-reqs for the nursing program. On an average should it take about a year to finish?Thanks. The reason I am asking is because in about 4 years, my fiance and I will be moving to California, I am in virginia now and I would like to be able to atleast get my ADN here and not have to worry about transferring to another college once I get there. Of course this all depends whether or not I get accepted into the program or not on my first try. I am a good student and have never gotten anything lower than a B+. My GPA is a 3.87. So hopefully I wont have any problems.

I guess it just depends on your rate of getting them done but dont take much if anything else with your major sciences just to get them done, you have to devote ALOT of time to them.

To actually graduate you need to have all of your state's required core curriculum (english, history, art, whatever they require) plus your nursing pre-reqs and co-reqs. It's taken me 2 years to complete all of my core and nursing pre/co-reqs. (I also had 12 credits from high school that I took at college level) Then the nursing curriculum at my school is 6 semesters, so if I got in first try it would be a grand total of 4 years....for an ADN!

For me, I went to school full-time and got my AA in Psych in 2 years. Then to complete my 4 science courses (A&P 1&2, Micro, and Chem), it took 2 more semesters. I did get in the nursing program on the first try, so that's 2 more years. (I wanted to be able to take JUST nursing courses; not have other co-reqs to have to focus on at the same time.) So, to get my ADN, it will be a total of 5 years. But, to get my BSN, I can do an advanced RN-to-BSN route, and it will only take one more year. Good luck to you!

Wow, so i'm looking into about 4 to 5 years just for my ADN? If I take all my pre-reqs and co-reqs??? I'm actually going to the RN-BSN advanced Route online as well. Then I plan on getting my Master degree as a PNP. So it's look like i'll be in school for another 8-9 years. Don't you have to work as a RN for a while to even be able to get your master's degree???

Don't panic. It all depends on your personal schedule. It's very possible to do your ADN, including all pre-reqs, in three years.

That said, are there factors that would make it necessary for you to take it at a slower pace? Do you work full time? Have children? Some people are only able to take a class or two per semester, some are able to take a full load.
