I'm going to schedule an appointment with a counselor soon, but I thought I'd ask here as well, maybe somebody has advice/info.

In Fall 2006 I was taking 3 automotive classes because that was my career choice at the time. Due to some problems with a teacher, and some big personal life issues, I decided that I would talk to another auto teacher I was comfortable with about my situation. He suggested that I take the rest of the semester off to get my issues straightened out because he could tell I was having a really hard time. I told him I didn't want to get 3 Fs on my transcript. He assured me that they'd make a special exception with the college and they would only show up as Ws (withdrawals) and wouldn't be as bad as Fs. So I withdrew and got the receipt.

STUPID ME, I didn't keep my receipt of withdrawal. I figured it was all fine and done with. So I apply to another university a couple months ago because my DH might have gotten a job where the Uni was. That required me to get transcripts sent, so I also got the unofficial transcript to see what it looked like. What do you know, those 3 automotive classes I was supposed to get Ws on? THREE Fs!

Well now I've decided to work towards applying to the nursing program at the same college. DH thinks those 3 Fs will hurt my chances, even though my GPA is still 3.1 and I have a couple prereqs to take to bring it up.

I honestly don't think that I can get those Fs changed now. It's been 2 years and it would be the auto directors word against mine because I have no proof that I got the withdrawal and they might not remember.

Is there any way to fix those Fs? Or am I screwed?

Could I just really do well on these last bits of prereqs and try to raise my GPA?

You need to talk to the couselor at your school . My grades from a previous college does not count for my GPA for the nursing program I am trying to get into, only the grades taken at this college. But I am not using any of my old courses as pre req's for nursing school. Each school has different policies.

Well of course the auto classes won't be part of prereqs for the nursing program, so maybe they won't care about those?

And the Nursing program is in the same college. (ASN at a comm college)

Don't worry just yet! When I was in college the first time (a million years ago) I didn't know about withdrawing & just stopped going to the few classes I was attending at the time. One of them was Ceramics!! I laugh about it now. But if your school is like the one I attend now, they don't care diddly about any classes you took or what your grades are UNLESS they are a pre-requisite to the nursing program. So call an advisor ASAP at the schhol you'd like to attend & find out. The school I just transferred from in Florida DID frown upon the F's I had & advised I retake the courses, but the school I'm attending now does NOT look at anything but the needed courses. Cross your fingers!

I sorta did the same, I didn't show up for finals my last semester of college about 20 yrs ago. I was worried about those grades. I am glad they do not count.

I did the same thing when I was 19 - just quit going to classes resulting in 0.7gpa! However, later went back to school, redid those classes and went on. Good luck.

I really hope I would not have to retake them. I mean, I really love automotives, but I feel like it's a waste of time if it's not my major. Plus one of the teachers was harassing me, but I don't want to stir up trouble by reporting that 2 years later. (I'd rather just move on).

Talk to the college. At least one of my colleges has a provision where you can get classes like that removed from your transcript. I need to do that myself with the computer programming class I took and got a D in the semester I met my husband

Hi, definitely check into what is called academic renewal (at my school atleast). If a semester is fairly old (2 years at my school) you can usually get it taken out of your GPA. You may have to take a few classes and get good grades before they will take the bad semesters off, but don't worry about the bad ones, just focus on doing well in your current classes. After you've re-established yourself as a dedicated student then try to get the bad semesters taken off. Hope that helps. Good luck. Lloyd

Try to get academic renewal on those courses which alot of colleges will do based oon the fact that a) those courses are no longer reflective of your career goals and b) it was over 2 years ago
