Hi!

Once a person has been accepted to a Nursing program, how extensive is the Physical Exam? Do they have to draw blood, do Xrays (outside of TB test)?

Any ideas on costs for a physical exam?

I used to work for a pediatrician. I think the most expensive part is the titres. Where are you located? Clinics might be your best bet, or some government assistance (medicaid). The physical alone, with the TB test lets see ..w/o insurance ..Exam, Vision/Hearing test, Urinalysis, TB - $180

Most schools need a Hepatitis B titre. Luckily for me, I had to get it done in the hospital I work in.

I am in SF- Bay Area. I have all my other shots EXCEPT Hep B. And that is a requirement. I know there are 3 shots each about $75-80 ouch.

I think most nursing schools have their own clinics, and if you are an accepted student they should be able to see you there. And most likely, it'd be cheaper than the regular clinics.

Would you qualify for low-income health discount plan?
There is one in Berkeley, and also there is a low fee immunization clinic in Berkeley too

For the immunization shots, yes! I would qualify for low income. Quit job and all for nursing school. I have yet to hear from a school. Thanks for the 411 :-)

Go to your local health department, they should be really cheap there. That is were my school send you. I am not sure about the other stuff, I got the Hep b shots for free and the Tb's are done for 15-25 dollars, not sure about that one.

I just got my physical about a month ago. I was shocked that my insurance wouldn't pay for it. They said that the physical/shots were elective, and not medically necessary.

I called my Dr's office who told me the shots would cost about $300, and the physical between $450-$600 depending on how it went.

I called my old ped who is now my children's ped, and he did it for me as a gift. Thank god because I would have never been able to afford that.

are you kidding? confirm that with your insurance company. I know GHI wont cover a well visit from 19 y.o. to 44 -- how in the heck did they come up with that range I have noo idea. This old ped would diagnose it differently, instead of a well visit. They still covered the vaccines and the visit. sheesh 400 dollars? I would cry LOL.

HIIII where is this clinic in oakland?? i need to get a varicella titer immunization..low cost..i have no insurance and just got accepted into ccsf's nursing program. thanks!
