Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in new york
|
|
I wasn't going to do this, but oh well, maybe it will make some part of my brain feel better or what not. Anyway
Has anyone applied or been apcepted to Phillips Beth Isreal School of Nursing in New York? I know of one other person who applied i think, but not sure if anyone else that hangs out here did.
It would be nice to start a support thread or something, and hopefully this won't get burried in cyber space.

Can it be that we are the only 2 applicants who visit this website? I started the same thread over in the New York folder and there were no takers either. No phone call for me yet.

Im starting to feel this is the case, i posted in all three folders last month and nothing. Last year there were like 6 or 7 different people.
No phone call for me either.... this sucks.

I applied, but just a week ago. I thought that they wouldn't notify people until mid may, after the final deadline. good luck!

oh thanks so much for responding molly,i didn't know any of that, ive been driving myself crazy and then i sent them an email last week and thats when they told me may. Its just that it seems as though last year people were getting immediate phone calls after posting high NLN scores. I don't know what else to think, so i just throw up my hands and hope for the best. Did you apply to any other schools, I saw you post on the NY thread and you mentioned Aldephi had a Manhattan campus which i had no idea, are you applying there as well and do you know what their NCLEX pass rate, or about their clinical sites and reputation, their website doesn't seem very informative about that

I don't know much about Adelphi, a girl from my A&P II class is in the program there and likes it. I think it is weird that I haven't heard much about it (unlike Hunter, Beth Israel, Columbia etc.) I do know that they require the NET (maybe just for accelerated transfer students?) which is a big reason I don't think I will apply there. I've had enough with standarized test what with taking the NLN and the GRE!
Apparently the College of Mount St. Vincent has a nursing school and has a program here in the city, but I don't know anything about that one.
I have applied to Columbia and SUNY Downstate for next May (2008), and Beth Israel for this september. I figure even if I do the 2 year associated at BI I will still finish (get my RN) around the same time as the accelerated BSn because it starts so much sooner. Plus it would be nice to get started already... All of the places I would look at for my NP would only make me do a few extra credits before going into a masters program (If I got an associates RN instead of a BSn) since I have a non-nursing Bachelors already.
I guess it comes down to who will take me now!
How about you?

Hey there Molly, I had no idea Adelphi had a manhattan campus until i saw your post in the NYC forum and decided to do a little research on it.
I only applied to Beth Israel, its my first choice, my only choice really, Im not really interested in any other program. I really fell in love with the school during the open house, i applied super early and everything, Ive been going crazy checking my phone every second for a phone call, from posts i found from last year and people i have spoken too alot of people got phone calls right away with high NLN scores, although i don't really know their GPA's. Im really worried about not getting in there. I didn't realise they are waiting until May to start making decisions and inviting people for interviews. It didn't seem like they did that last year.
Anyway, im thinking of appying to Adelphi as a backup, for the Spring 2008 if beth israel doesn't work out, but Im keeping my hopes up anyway.
I did fairly decent on the NLN i wanted a better score but Im hopeing it will be enough to keep their intrest. Im very worried about it, but there is nothing I can do about it now.
I wanted to apply to SUNY Downstate, that was my original choice before i even knew about beth israel but you can't work in their program, i have to work, so it didn't make sense me applying there.
Anyway, all i can do is have patience and hope for the best
Oh and one of my collegues at work is attending Mount Saint Vincent, its another school i'm beginning to consider as another back up if Beth Israel doesn't work out.

good luck! it seemed to me that Beth Israel was one of those schools that puts weight on your letter and references as well as your scores and grades. I like that kind of school, you get a more well rounded, interesting group of students (instead of just looking at raw grades and scores).
Well, all you can do now is sit back and relax, no worrying will change things at this point. I actually find that planning out plans B through Z and getting excited about them helps (that is what got me interested in Beth I srael initially, it was "C" and has moved up to "A"!)

LOL, well to be quiet honest i had thrown in the towel and pretty much given up after the Downstate open house, i didn't like it (no offense since its one of your choices) then i went to BMCC, there was no one really to talk too, very huffy people i found, no advisors were there, but the girl at the desk pretty much told me i had to retake classes I had B's in at BMCC, since everyone they apcepted had 3.8's and higher, i definately don't have that. I checked all the CUNY's were just discouraging to me. I took a semester off to get my head straight and then I remember a classmate at summer session telling me about BI, so i started researching, went to the open house and just loved it. They seem to really give a crap about you and it seems as though they prepare you for the real world. You are right they take everything into consideration and not just grades, at least thats what they say. I just hope they give me a chance.
I hope you get in too, if your NLN and GPA are top notch you shouldn't have a problem, thats what they said in the email i got last week. I only know of one other person applying to the program from this forum that ive been keeping in touch with, i just hope it works out for all of us, it would be nice to go in knowing someone.
Do you expect to work while in school??? I know i have too unfortunately.
