Re: Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in new york

Hey I'm new to this forum, and I just registered for the sake of being another one who applied this Spring for BI. I've been taking a peek at these forums for a while, and I finally decided its time to man up and just post already. Anyway FYI mystiqx, I received a call from BI this morning to schedule an interview, so don't worry the calls are rolling out now I guess. I too was a lil anxious as this is only 1 of 2 nursing schools I've applied too, since Hunter denied me once already - LONG STORY (CUNY SUCKS.)

Anyways I hope there are more people out there applying, we need more friends. lol

Hey Male Nurse NYC...Im so excited you posted, ive been trying to find application buddies for months now, you are the third one...congrats on your phone call, you are pretty much in. They said that at the open house, a phone call for an interview means your foot is half way through the door.
Mind if i ask when you applied, took your NLN and score and even so bold to ask GPA

Well I applied at the end of october, had my application completed since the end of febuary. Took the first NLN exam for the season the one they had on Feb 2nd. Got a compositie of 124 or 85 percentile, and my GPA isn't too pleasent i think its at least a 3.0, maybe a 2.9 but not sure oh well. I dunno im a little discouraged about getting that phone call for an interview. Good luck on yours and let me know how it goes.

Oh and I only applied to PBISN, didn't bother with CUNY, they are insane. I tip my hat to those who are applying there.

Thanks again for posting

Wow I'm only the third?? hey whatever, less competition then! JK -Thanks for the congrats, very kind of you.

I applied in January, and like you I had my application complete with everything around february as well. Minus my NLN grade which was sent to them only 2 weeks ago. So everything (transcripts/essay, etc) has been in their hands technically, since the middle of March. I took my NLN on March 3rd (I took it once before last year) I got a higher score this time around, I got a composite score of 136 or 95 percentile, my GPA wasn't all that great either, I had a 3.25 transferring from Hunter college.

I say don't be too discouraged, there is still plenty of time for them to call you. I wouldn't fret. I've heard of people within your grade range getting accepted last year as well.

I actually have a question for you, since you went to the open house, could you shed some light on it for me? bc I feel like i missed out, I want to know how it was when you went, what it was like etc. You can either PM me with the info or just leave it here, whichever is more appropriate.

Hey there, well you got up there in the 90's and i think they go for top NLN scores and work their way down, part of me regrets taking the first test of the year, i feel like people who took it in march did so much better. oh well you know what they say about hindsight.

Ok open house stuff.
I totally fell in love with the place at the open house, i had intended to apply to PBISN, and LICHSN, but after the open house I had no desire to go anywhere else. They had the Dean there and the asst Dean, co-ordinators for the first years, and i think maybe 5 or 6 first year students. I had attended the first open house of the year which was october last year, and the room they had it in was packed from end to end. I think they had at least 4 or 5 more throughout the year, so i can only imagine that it was the same thing. The students sang the school's praises the entire night, to a point that the asst. Dean had to stop them and say she didn't pay them to say it. They said (as well as some alums on allnurses and current students) that the comraderie amoung the students is awsome, nobody is trying to cut anyone's throat, they said that the clinicals really prepare you for reality, the classes were challenging, but the professors all have an open door policy that you can pop in and ask questions when you like. The asst dean, said it was rolling application process, and she said once a portfolio was completed it went to the admissions committee for review and decision. Um she said that if they decided to consider you, you would get a phone call to schedule an interview appointment, and if you got that phone call you were pretty much in ( so that means you lol, im green with envy tee hee) They went over the different scheduling options, the traditional 2 yr option, three year option and the ATOP option. They talked about their partnership with PACE University and NYU. They answered alot of general questions, they showed an info video about the school. Thats mostly what i rememer, oh and at the end the students gave a tour. I really loved the atmosphere, and the attitudes of everyone. I hope i was able to answer your question, if you want to know something more specific let me know.

Male Nurse NYC: Congrats on your interview. When is it scheduled for?

I am also waiting to hear from BI. I only got a 119 on the NLN with a 79th percentile. If you got a 136 and a 95th percentile it does not look good for me. Jeez - now I cannot even get into the private nursing schools.

Just waiting to hear anything...

Tracy don't give up hope, i know its a little discouraging, but we have to keep our fingers crossed, Im sure your GPA, experience and recomendations and personal statement has to count for something. After all they did say at the open house that they count all these factors and not just one specific thing. Im thinking though that they are starting with high NLN scores and working their way down, I dunno, we just have to keep hopeing for the best.

Re: Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in new york

My friend just took their exam early this week and she says their was over 100 people their. WHich freaks me out only because their aren't that many spots. So, I gather that they will be picking candidates with the highest test scores.

Tracy, I hope you get in. I'm keeping my fingers crosssed. This whole thing is extremely stressful. Have you tried Farmingdale? I heard it wasn't super hard to get into. I think you may have to take the NET.
