A & P here I come!!!!!

It feels like just yesterday that I was starting school and thinking about the day that I would register for A & P. At that time, it felt like eons away but this morning I registered for A & P .

Why am I so happy? Because I wasn't sure that I would be able to get into this class when I needed to. My school suddenly changed their registration policy to where only students with a lot of credits can register first. Since I only have 22, I was worried that the people ahead of me would take all the A & P classes. But, not so, I was able to get my first choice on my classes. Next semester I am taking:

A & P
Chem
Nutrition

I am really excited because this is my second to last semester of pre-reqs and I am sitting pretty on a solid 3.9!!!! I am also happy because getting this class means that I will be able to finish my pre-reqs in the time that I had planned on.

YAY!!! I absolutely loved A&P...probably my favorite class so far!!! A lot of work, but I enjoyed learning all that information!!! Best of luck to you...I know what you mean about it being eons away...I started in Summer of 2004 and I finished my pre-req's this past spring. I am hoping to be in the the Nursing Program next Spring (2008) as I did not get in for this Fall.

Best of luck to you in the class and way to go keeping that GPA up!!! Can't say I'm with ya there!!!

I agree. I just took a prep class for A & P and Micro and I got to say that A & P was a lot easier for me to understand and memorize. I also actually learned a lot unlike Micro where I just regurgitated information that I don't even care to remember.

A word of advice: get Barron's Anatomy and Physiology the Easy Way. It's an excellent study guide that helps explain the basics of A&P. I relied heavily on mine, and have 2 As to show for it

Good luck!

Re: A & P here I come!!!!!

Congratulations on getting your classes. It's always stressful to wonder whether you're going to get into the sections that you need.

I, too, loved A&P and did very well. Given how well you've done thus far, I'd expect you to be able to maintain that performance through those classes.

The key to both of them is to keep up and study regularly. The volume of material makes cramming very difficult. Physio is not so much memorization as anatomy but rather requires conceptual knowledge applied to various systems.

Even for the things that do lend themselves to memorization (for example, the effects of various drugs on cardiac tissue), I found it easier to understand the mechanisms behind their effects because I could then categorize them by mechanism rather than simply memorizing.

Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll do well if you maintain good study habits.

Re: A & P here I come!!!!!

Instead of creating a new thread, i'll just post my question here.

I just signed up for for my first pre-reqs. They are:

A&P I w/ lab
College Algebra
College Composition I

Should I add Chemistry to the list too? I hear if I do A&P I and Chemistry in the same semester, it'll be too much. Not sure how the original poster is doing it.

I'm doing this all at the local cc.

Unless your schedule dictates that you need to knock out the classes ASAP, I'd suggest that you wait until next semester. Be careful, though, to examine your prerequisites for future classes so you don't end up unable to take a class you want for lack of a prereq.

Are you a new HS grad or been around a little? If you're new to college, definitely wait while you're getting used to it.

Re: A & P here I come!!!!!

I've been out of HS for a couple years. I took a few courses in the summer of 06, but that was it, but do have a 4.0 on file which should help me.

Basically there's no wait list for nursing school, they have a point system based on courses you have completed and other things. So before applying they suggest

A&P I
Chemistry
Human Growth & Development

non required but strong recommended:

A&P II
Microbiology
College composition I
Intro. to Sociology
Elements of Nutrition
General Psychology

perhaps I should take psychology or something instead with it.

Re: A & P here I come!!!!!

Depending on your school, they may accept high school chemistry to fulfill that requirement. Mine does, but only if the class has been taken within the last 10 years. I'd check into it, it could save you from having to take a class you don't need to.

As for my suggestion for what to take, I'd take Psych. You're probably going to have to take it in your nursing program anyway, so why not knock it off now?

Yea I would take the Psychology or Sociology or English instead of adding Chemistry to that group. Good Luck!
