Question A & P before CHM?

I've signed up for my 1st A&P of 2 required in my pre reqs. It was suggested that I take CHM before taking A&P but i have to complete my college alegebra course before I can take CHM.

I took A&P before Chemistry and it was just fine. Some of the concepts regarding ions and acids/bases I was a little confused by, but I got through it and so will you. Just study those parts extra hard.

A&P B/F Chemistry

I would not say that it cannot be done; however, I just completed A&P 1 and our first test was strictly chemistry. Having said that, I would immediately begin studying chemistry concepts (grab a book from a library, a cheap chemistry textbook from a used bookstore, or surf the net, etc.) before you begin so that you have some foundation.

All the best.

Don't feel bad! I'm starting back (have some nursing pre-reqs done already) after 10-years and I'm 50! I'm taking General Chemistry in January. I figure if I can get through that, I can get through anything!

I agree with garn2b. I just completed A&P 1 and there was a lot of chemistry and biology involved with each of our tests. We had to know how things work at the chemical level. I'm really surprised that your school would allow you to take A&P without Chem and Bio as prereqs. We have no choice at my school...prereqs are mandatory because A&P is considered the "weed out" class for our nursing program. I would definitely meet with an advisor before you go ahead and take A&P without having chem.

We were told to take Chem before A&P and I found the background is necessary in order to understand the entire course. It's all about cells and how the different pathways work.(Kreb Cycle, Na and K pumps, ATP, ADP, Pi etc....) Without it I find it would have been very difficult...much more than it was. Even with the background it was a grueling course. But if you're strong in Chem already then by all means...skip it until later. But I strongly reccomend Chem.

YOU CAN DO IT! I did! I did it then took Chemistry. Do you know what book you'll be using? If so, get the study guide and start studyin NOW! It's not going to be easy and the one test on Chemistry was hard but, I got my ONLY 100 on that quiz. (And I haven't been in college for 20 years!) Another thought is to get the Chemistry CLEP book, study like crazy and try to CLEP it. Last suggestion: TAKE CHEMISTRY ALONE in the summer. Trust me, it's easier if you can afford the time!

Best of luck to you!

Since that would put me back another semester, (actually two semesters) I have decided to go ahead and dive in to A&P. Words of encouragement and (or warnings) are what Im looking for. Im just starting on this endeavor at 39 years old. I havent gone to school in a long, long time! Thanks.

Does A&P 1 always have a lot of chem in it? I was told by several student at school that A&P 1 was just memorizing body parts and that A&P 2 is where you learn about how things work. Is A&P 1 different at different schools?

Honestly, we hardly covered any chemistry in my A&P 1 class. Our class was more focused on tissue types, anatomical positions and movements, sarcomeres, and body structures. You had to have a very basic knowledge of some chemical equations for a
few concepts but we were tested on none of those equations. I took the chemistry
along with my A& P 1 class. I did very well in both.

It sounds like you covered the muscoloskeletal first before the chem part of the course. We take that second.
