Re: NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

Hooray! I got my acceptance as well! Congrats to others!!

I attended NYU as an undergrad B.A. student and am returning for an RN and then planning to move on to the midwifery (CNM) program. If anyone needs any help or advice with housing/financial aid/NYC etc please let me know - I'm happy to give you any of my thoughts/experience!

Re: NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

if you're from out of state and you're going to school in NYC, live it up and live in manhattan, close to the school. you'll most likely accrue debt from the tuition, so what's a few more thousands of dollars? at least you'll have the stories and the fond experiences of being a new yorker... even if you're only here for 15 months.

Yeah I will have finished up all the prereqs by May too. When I submitted my app, I had all the prereqs finished except chem and micro (which I'm taking now).
I really dont know what to do though. I have to say something to Pace by the 6th and Im guessing i wont hear from NYU by then. Do I go ahead and go to Pace? Have you heard anything about that school? I tried posting on the page but nobody has responded. Do any NYers know anything about that nursing school? Anyone? If so, please let me know!!!! I kinda just applied on a whim. But now, it may be where I end up. Crossing my fingers for NYU.
Pace isn't a bad school. The thing is, their program is for 12 months whereas NYU is 15 months. Pace basically said they "own you." No breaks. that means don't plan on attending your friends wedding while you're enrolled in the program.

Re: NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

For any future midwives, I Just saw this posted on the College of Nursing Midwifery webiste:

Announcement: New York University College of Nursing will no longer be accepting applications for admission into its Master's degree and Advanced Certificate programs in Midwifery as it will be suspending its Midwifery Program for new students beginning in the fall of 2008. The Midwifery Program will continue for current students until the last cohort of currently enrolled students has graduated.

I am freaking out -- does anybody know more about this? I am starting in Fall 2008 does that mean I am blocked out.

I kind of want to cry!

Thank you in advance for any clarification!

Re: NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

are you starting the midwifery program or the nursing program in general? you'll be fine if your starting the midwifery program, but you may have to look for a different university for the MAsters in midwifery, you can still get your BSN at NYU and then change.

^^is what i assume, you should call tomorrow to clarify

Re: NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

Hi Everyone!

Congrats gain to everyone who has been accepted! And for those still waiting, my fingers are crossed for you, hang in there, I wish you the best of luck.

Regarding housing, would anyone want to room together? Is anyone looking for roomies? I'm going to inquire about housing this week...and once I get the scoop, I'll fill everyone in on what I've learned.

I plan on at least using housing for the first two semesters, which seem the hardest academically and I figure the convenience of living in the area will lighten the load a little.

Let me know if anyone is interested! PM and I'll give you my email address!

Super excited!!!!

Re: NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

So I'm kinda freaking out now...I know, I just got in 2 days ago and now I keep going back and forth between being excited, and being scared of moving across the country. I've lived in CA my whole life, but then I think NYU would be a great experience and it's only 15 months and I want to be a nurse asap. I don't know why I am just feeling really scared ha, but staying here would mean applying to places over again for next jan or spring.Anyone have any advice for me?

Re: NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

I am in the same situation as you. I can't wait to be a nurse so i can start working but its a scary idea to just move across the country. I am from cali too so it's going to be a big change. And as for re-applying to schools....I think you should just do it now instead of applying and going through the entire process again. I kinda wanted to go to loyola because my brother lives in chicago but that would require taking so much time off. Plus who knows if I would get in. I would just hate the idea of gambling on school and in the end not having it work out. I'm sure there are going to be alot of people in the same situation, including myself. Be strong and just go for it!
