Re: Nursing and Math

I'm not a math whiz. In fact, I have been a self proclaimed hater of mathematics for quite some time now. Nursing math is quite different, though. You aren't just doing calculations as busy work; in nursing, you do mathematical equations to give medications, to find infusion rates, etc. I just find the math easier, I suppose, because I can actually apply it to something I really need.

Re: Nursing and Math

My SO is an EMT and is just finishing up paramedic school. Math is not one of his strong suits, but the calculations he does he does over and over and got used to doing it.

I'm a little nervous about the calculation stuff myself- my problem is calculating in my head.

Re: Nursing and Math

We just took a major math test in which we had to score 90% or above. We have been working through a clinical calculations book now for 2 quarters. I picked it up the night before the test and reviewed, and I managed to get a 97.96%. The one problem I missed was more of a reading more into the problem then was actually there. They say you shouldn't change answers and I did. My bad. Anyway, I wouldn't call myself a math whiz so you will be fine. Don't let it get in the way of going into nursing. Best of luck to you.
