Need Information - No summer classes- Bored!

This is horribly nerdy of me, but I'm not taking classes this summer, and my brain is screaming for attention!

Does anyone know of any sites I can spend time on, to get a head start on next semester or just keep my brain cranking?

I've played with Wikipedia.org a bit, but it doesn't teach me anything new since all I know to look up are concepts I already know about.

I know my A/P prof. had a website outlining his lectures- maybe someone has a nursing prof. that does something similar? What makes this worse is that I'm also waiting to see if I've been accepted to nursing school.

Any other nerds coping with a semester off?

I'm taking the summer off as well. Just go to the book store and buy some books on nursing. Or spend your summer memorizing drugs. That's what I'm doing. I bought a pharmacology book and I am going to try to learn the drugs now. It will be a great step to get ahead. )

I'm with you. I just finished my last final and I can't believe it but I am a little melancholy. I tried to take online nutrition but couldn't get in. I just wanted something to keep me in the groove. I think I will spend some time studying for the NET in June. That will keep my brain juiced, I hope.

I'll be out of classes during the summer too. We'll just have to keep our minds busy here or else on sites like the someone already mentioned or something. Maybe we can set up a time and all get together on here and discuss some topic or other to keep our minds stimulated while we're out of classes.

The whole site is full of great resources and activities, but I mostly play around with the A&P stuff. There are some really great learning tools there!

Re: No summer classes- Bored!

I couldn't wait for the spring semester to be over! I was so relieved. Well that was two weeks ago. Now I'm bored to death. I start nursing school in the fall and am ready to get going. I think I'll start making drug flash cards.

I'm only taking Pharmacology and a free elective this summer and I'm already getting bored.

After 16 hours in Fall, and 18 in Spring, these two classes are almost too easy.

Yeah, I know. I used one of the resources to help myself with the Dosage Calc class I'm taking. I'll be hitting thse A&P threads and links once this quarter ends in June in order to prepare for A&P 1 in the fall.

BTDT with the light quarters. I normally take 16-18 credits a quarter myself, and when I drop to 12 for whatever reason, I feel like I'm getting lazy or something.

Re: No summer classes- Bored!

Another idea is to contact nearby hospitals, offices, Home Health, hospice,or LTC & see if they offer opportunities to job shadow. Arrange to spend a few days in various specialties and different types of nursing. I did this during breaks & it was a real eye opener. I knew very early that bedside nursing was not going to be my thing & also knew exactly what direction I wanted to go and that is where I ended up.

I read all too often on this board from pre-nursing students that "I want to be a L&D nurse" or "I want to work in the ER" when actually that person hasn't a clue what is involved in that particular kind of nursing. At That point many only know what they see on TV. Imagine going all through nursing school expecting to work in Psych & discovering that you really didn't like it or want to work in hospice & discover that it involves too much paperwork(don't know if that's the case, by the way). Wouldn't it be fun to discover other opportunities that you never thought of?

Think about it. It's educational & fun. Besides, when I started applying for jobs, I mentioned that I had done this during breaks. The interviewer was usually very impressed.
