NLN Workshop? I know Johnny_B said something about you going to CLC (that is where I go and I'm going to be starting my clinicals in a couple of weeks), but they never offered a workshop to help me study for the test and I wish they had. (Edited to add...sorry, I think he was referring to Kready)

Johnny_B had some very good pointers on taking the test. Basically I just went through the book and went over each section over and over and over until I felt I knew it enough...basically until I felt if I were asked a question and given 4 choices, I felt I'd do well.

The vocab section was not my friend...I'll just say that! And there really is no way to study for it...I went over the roots/prefix/suffix section and made sure I knew those, but other than that, not much you can do. Reading comprehension I did good on, but the vocab, ugh...just glad I don't have to do that again!

I focused most of my time on Math & Science...felt comfortable in the Math, but the Science I went over and over.

My advice...repitition! Keep going over it and just when you think you got it...go over it some more!!!! Test day, just remember you have done all you can up to that point and all you can do is take that test and do the best you can.

I took the test 4 times. 3rd time I got an 85 and then the 4th, finally, I got a 92! The two scores before that were in the low 70's.

Go in there with a calm attitude and keep your mind clear of everything else NOT pertaining to that test! Best of luck to you!!!

You said that you took the NLN 4 times, I will probably need to take the test again. Is there a waiting period between the test, or is that something you can take the next time the test is offered?

Re: NLN Results....

Wow! Thanks for the great responses to my question about the NLN test. I have been so bus with two children that I haven't had time to log on lately. I am sooo nervous about the test and feel totally unprepared. A part of me wishes I wasn't taking it yet
Good for you taking it 4 times and never giving up, then scoring a 92!
I would have given up after the second time.
Anyone at Harper College? I'm gonna transfer there from MCC.

Yes, you read correctly...4 times. Don't let the amount of times you need to take it get in your way - you will get there eventually! Determination!

Well, I according to NLN, you can only take it twice a year...once every 6 months...check with your school though. At my school, you don't have to wait a full 6 months before taking it again - they have windows. We can take it once anywhere between January and June and again between July and December. So, it still works out to two times/year. But see how your school does it.

Also, check with your Nursing department and see how past semesters have ranked as far as percentages go...or basically find out how they determine who will be accepted. But if they mainly go off of the NLN scores like my school, find out what the lowest percentages were that were accepted to give you an idea.

I'm am happy I took it again...the previous semesters, Spring '07, the lowest was 87% and Fall '07 was 83%. I had an 85% and wasn't sure if I should do it again, but decided to...what did I have to lose. I ended up with a 92% and the lowest score (1st round anyway) accepted from what I was told was 92%...whew!!!

Yes, find out the next time you can take it...make sure it is to your school's specifications because if you take it again, it may not be accepted because you didn't take it within the correct window. Best of luck!!!

AND, keep in mind these scores last 3 years (well, your best score, from the time you take it). So even if your not ready right now to enter the program just yet, you can at least take it until you get the score you are happy with and sit on it til your ready!

Don't give up if it's what you really want to do. You will get there...if I can, anyone can!

I am not at Harper, but isn't MCC getting their own program soon? I know CLC takes a lot of students from MCC because they didn't have their own, but I thought I heard that they were getting their own Nursing Program soon...no? The only reason I am thinking that is because I thought I read something from CLC saying this was the last semester they were accepting MCC students, or that POSSIBLY this will be the last semester...can't remember exactly.
