Re: Mount St. Mary College MSMC Accelerated BSN Summer 2008!

Are any of you relocating to LA for this program? I have to admit, I live in a small town, and the idea of moving to a big city like Los Angeles is daunting...but I'm still going to apply. What's the area like? Has affordable housing been easy to find?
Just curious
Thanks!

Hi,
I am not relocating, I live in the San Fernando Valley and will be commuting. LA is great, but depending on how small of a town your coming from, navigating the are surrounding the school is a nightmare with traffic and all. Even I get frustrated because I'm not super familiar with downtown LA. As far as housing in the area of the school, I'm sure you can find something affordable, but don't know if you'll want to be in that neighborhood, some parts around there are kind of ghetto. The campus is beautiful and great, it's right next to USC so there is bound to be lots of apartments at that are geared towards the college student. I've just never actually looked for myself. Downtown LA is great in that there is so much nearby, museums, clubs, sporting events (staples center, dodger stadium, colliseum) but which is also why it is so congested.
It's a great program, so I think you should go for it! Good luck!

anyone know what to do with that UCLA Access form that was sent in our admissions packet? do we just bring it with us, or do we have to send it to UCLA or what?

hey flyingfish....well we are into our 2nd week already and our entire class made it through ms. g's first exam! thanks for your advice about the yahoo group, we got that set up before school even started and it's already been a great way to communicate and share info.
i had some questions about torrance and northridge hospitals. i received the torrance loan forgiveness program and am scheduled to interview at northridge. i was wondering what hospital you will be working for and any advice you can give about your clinical experiences at both hospitals.
thanks in advance and good luck on your nclex!

Hi everyone
I'm very interested in applying to this program and just wanted to get some feedback from you all. I graduated in 2005 with a double major (English Literature and Philosophy with a Religious Studies Emphasis). I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I'm volunteering at two different hospitals (direct patient contact). However I screwed up and got a B in Microbiology.... and a C in Anatomy I still have to take Chemistry (this summer) and Physiology (this fall) and will try very hard to get A's in both.
I know this school is super competitive, so do you guys think the B and the C will hurt my chances of getting in or should it be ok given my 3.7 undergrad GPA and my volunteer experience? I'm scared! Let me know.....
And good luck to all of you just starting this program!!!

I think if you do well in your other core pre-requisites you should be fine and like you said you have a great GPA from your other degree. And don't be so hard on yourself with getting a B in micro. You seem like you are definitely on the right track with your other volunteer work. I would advise also to try and take your bioethics class to get it out of the way. Another thing you should do is attend one of the information sessions on the program, they can answer lots of your questions and give you more insight to the program.
To be honest, my overall GPA was barely 3.0 but my core science classes were A's & B's, so just do your best and sell yourself at your interview. They have to have a high standard for applicants, but it's not all about the numbers. Don't get me wrong, some of my fellow classmates are super smart and more brainy than i'll ever be, but it's a diverse group from multiple backgrounds. I think they really like to get a feel for your personality during the interview and from your personal statements.
Good luck!!!

I just saw that if you get in, you have to pass a math test and get at least an 84%.... I'm terrible at math so this really scares me! Do they "un-accept you" if you don't pass the test???

Hi everyone! Although I did not apply for the ABSN program, but the ADN program instead, I have a question for the applicants. Did you receive your decision letter on time?
I was told I would hear from them mid-June, but I'm sooo anxious to hear sooner.
