Wow 4 weeks !! The first chapters aren't that bad. We had 2 chapters a week and they were brutal. It was tough to be tested on 4 chapters, thats what killed me. I got a C in the class. Hope and pray that you get sufficient reviews before your test, especially because your class is accelerated ! I would have loved to have had the brain cells to do it like you are. Get it over with. Good for you ! Good luck ! Let us know how you are doing !

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

Good luck to all of you taking Microbiology this semester! It was one of my favorite classes. I took it with Dev. Psy and got A's in both. For those who are nervous about Micro., don't be, seriously. Just make sure you do the required reading, take good notes, do well in the labs, and you'll be fine. As long as you study and don't wait until the last minute, it'll be great! If you did well in A&P you will do well in Micro.

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

I'll be taking Micro as well this spring as an accelerated course, but I'm looking foward to it. I only have 3 classes left before nursing classes. Micro, statistics, & intro to lit. I'll be sitting on pins & needles this summer waiting for my letter. Anyone planning on sharing the pins & needles with me??? I'll be sure to bring extras, lol.

Pins and needles here, too! I have Micro (spring 08), lifespan psy (now--2 wk intersession!), and stats (summer). I'm accepted to an ADN program, but am applying to my 'dream' program (2nd degree BSN) in March--will hear in May, and don't expect to have any fingernails left by then (oh, and we're trying to sell our house and move, too). Two kids, working pt time too--pass the coffee!! ;-)

What Textbook??

Was wondering, what textbook are you all using??

Mine is Microbiology: An Introduction (9th Edition) (Hardcover) by Gerard J. Tortora.

Also, where are you buying your text? College bookstore? Online? Other??

Thanks!

I am really upset about the whole situation. I would recommend getting it over with asap!
Im confused...Did your College actually let you start the nursing program without your science prerequisites? I know they'll let you take some courses along with nursing but not Anatomy, Physiology, Micro.
English and Algebra were also a must for us.
Just wondering, never heard of that.

Ok. Our school is a 2 year ADN program. The way it works is you test in and it's on a competitive level. There are certain classes you have to have prior to certain nursing classes BUT say for example I test in and make it my first semester in college (which is possible) they have sort of reccommended schedule you should take to ensure you get those specific classes done before they are required. Ex. A&P1 must be taken before or with fundamentals. A&P II before or with Med-Surg which is our second semester, and Micro must be taken BEFORE you enter your last semester of the program. The hard part about doing it this way is you have to make your C before you continue onto the next nursing class (in these cases). Like Algebra... it's a college graduation requirement so it can be taken anytime before graduation. Most people usually have at least a semester or two of these prior to entering the actual program. (Pre-Nursing major). I got one semester of pre-nursing behind me before I got into the program. ALSO, while in it you HAVE to be enrolled in at least 12 total hours at school and our nursing classes only take up about 8 or 10 hours. This means something has to fill your time..... If you drop below the 12 hours you will fail out of nursing for the semester. So basically it's smarter to get the hard ones finished first but you don't HAVE to. So....I will be taking Micro and algebra this semester then in AUG i'll be able to return and finish my last semester of my RN classes. But those are my last 2 requirements besides nursing so my last semester i'll probably take something like first aid or something towards my BSN just to fill my schedule. Kinda confusing i guess. AGH that was alot. lol

We’ll be using Microbiology—Principles and Explorations (6th Edition) by Jacquelyn G. Black, and for lab we have Microbiology in Practice (6th Edition) by Lois Beishir. Big bucks! I got the main book used but had to buy a new lab book. I was impatient and got them both at the college bookstore but maybe could have done better at B&N.

Pins and needles here too! Along with micro I’ll be taking English Comp (the 2nd English course) and Human Growth & Development (2nd psych course). Both of these are accelerated and are squeezed into the first half of the semester. Arrrgg! Currently I’m doing an intersession course—Personal Health and Wellness—which means long days at school but pretty easy work, and it will be all over by the end of this week. Which reminds me--time to hit the books again!

I’m another hopeful for the fall 2008 admissions (ADN). All my pre-reqs and all but one of my “general ed” will be done by the end of this semester. Phew!

I'd like to be in on this one too. I'm taking Chem 151, Nutrition, Micro, and my CNA class this semester!
