Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

Well I think I'm about half way through this 8 week Micro class. We had our first test a week ago. My professors grading is a bit funny though, had me scared out of my mind. I got my test back & it's a 71, that I was going to cry right then & there. Then he explains that a 72 -80 is an A so I got a B. If I had only gotten one more question right. There are only 3 tests total & the next on is March 5 over 8 chapters. I hope I do better on this one. I have a 3.9 GPA & the NS I'm applying to only hs 50 seats & no waiting list, so the better my grades the higher up the list I will be.

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

the vango notes for the microbiology are great, I run around with my ipod listening to them, and plug it in the car stereo, too. The vangonotes for my A&P class were not worth the money I spent though.

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

I just posted a similar question in the A&P thread so . . .

I'm seriously thinking of going down the long hard road to being a nurse (if I can get enough money pulled together, but that's another story), and was wondering if there's any particular textbook that a lot of you use for micro? Any particular on-line study sites? Things like that. I'd like to get a head start on some of these tough-sounding classes as well.

Thanks in advance

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

We use the book by Tortora, Funke and Case called Microbiology: An Introduction, 9th edition. It comes with a CD-rom that I use sometimes to quiz myself. It is a pretty comprehensive book. If you're looking to get a head start on some of this stuff, you might want to get one of those Micro Made Easy books to start with. They can be helpful in understanding the big picture. I like the vango notes too.

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

So I haven't been posting on here alot, but we had our third test in Micro today. I'm so relieved because I got an A on it. I was disappointed with my last test grade an 82 because I felt like I could have done better, but I didn't study as well as I should have. I was wondering how everybody was doing with the class and what do you think of the class so far?

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

This is our fourth week into the semster and we have a test next Thursday. I am really nervous because the test is going to be mostly comprehensive with essay questions and almost no multiple choice or fill in the blank. I am really going to have to know this stuff!! Well, I should probably go study seeing as I have a physiology test this Friday...

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

Well my second test is already here. Tomorrow's test is over 8 chapters. We have one more test after this with only 5 class days left & about 10 more chapters to go over. I can't wait for this session to be over with. Micro is kicking my butt.

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

Our profrssor is new and I guess feeling out her new teaching position. I bellieve she is a new graduate of our school. Anyway, the class is ridiculously easy so far. I got a 101 on my first lecture exam (91 + 10pts EC). My first lab exam is this thursday.

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

We are more than half way done in our class. I have managed to get a B on the first quiz and an A on the first exam. We only have have one more exam to go. I have an A in the class due to other extra credit assignments, so I am very happy. My advice is make a ton of flashcards and read them every day. This class is all about memorization and learning the concepts associated with each chapter. If I can work full time and do this everyone can.

Re: Microbiology—Spring 2008

We do the quarter system and my class starts on Tuesday April 1st.
Lab AND lecture 2 days a week, as a night class because I have to work... having labs both nights is tough because it cuts into my study time

Here's hoping I can do ok...
