I just had my first micro exam. HARD! I think I totally bombed it. Seriously. I mean I could have studied a lot more and could have gone to the study review session. That would have made things so much easier for myself. But I'm just lazy. Plain and simple. I hate it. I just don't know if I'm cut out to be a nurse.

Hang in there Micro will do that to you. I hope you have a decent prof. Do you get study guides or reviews ? There is so much information to take in that isn't really visual, that makes it tough I think. It is alot of processes. I took Micro last semester, got a C. Now I am taking Biology 1. Bio would have helped immensely with Micro if I was able to take it first. It wasn't available (full) and I wanted to take a science and Micro was it. Bad move. And my prof wasn't the best either. Nice you have the option of a study group. I think that would have helped me too but no one was ever available in my class. Take care.

I'm in week 4 of Micro. It's OK, I guess. I will have my first exam in 2 weeks at week 6. I think I will do fine, since I have a pretty good professor who explains things well......but I'll see

Thanks for the encouragement. My teacher is nice and does explain things well...but FAST. She gave us vocabulary words for each chapter that we should be familiar with (the exam was ch.1-7). Then, she gave us 9 essay questions (some had several parts!) to study over. She had a review session that went over all the questions and everything that would be on the test! I was very stupid and completely forgot about going! All of those questions were on the test, so there were no suprises or BS. I just didn't take advantage of all the lectures or the review session. This is completely my fault. I know I can do better...but the question is will I? Why am I being so lazy? Where is my motivation? Do I really want this? Those are the questions that are getting me down.
Also, you're right about taking Intro or General Bio first. I was going to do that but someone said it was really hard and to take Geography or Anthropology instead. That was before I wanted to be a nurse. Yes, you'll have to work extra hard for Micro if you have no general bio under your belt, but it is very possible. I'm just a nerd who isn't working as hard as I should!

I barely passed anatomy and physiology. I was somehow able to pull out a B on the final to end up with a C. So far micro is pretty hard for me.

I am concerned about the A & P's too. That is why I will be reading up on it this summer before I take it. It will help that it is more visual. I would like to grab a CNA class in the summer if I could too. That would be too convenient though. Plus there is a NET refresher course available in the summer too usually. Glad I am done micro though. Wanted a B but it just didn't happen. You will do fine. Micro was my first class back to school after 25 years !

Well, so far I've been making 100% on all of my quizzes in the lecture with the exception of one (80%), but we get to drop the lowest.
Plus, we just had our first lab exam last night and I *think* that I passed with flying colors!

Is anyone else finding a lot of chemistry popping up in their micro class? We are using the Tortora book and are nearly finished with chapter 5, microbial metabolism. I can't believe how much chemistry I'm seeing here - enzymes, electrons, protons, glucose, not to mention all the hyper/hypo tonicity, selectively permeable membranes and diffusion/osmosis from previous chapters!
At any rate - I was thrilled to get a 99 on my first exam!! I think it's only going to get more complicated from here....

I am finding a lot of chemistry in both my phys and micro classes. We are using the Tortora book for micro as well. Great job on your exam!!
It helps that I have already taken a semester of Chem and a year of Bio. I find that a lot of stuff that we are going over is very familiar to me.
We have our first exam in a few weeks and I am already nervous. This is only our second week of classes though so I shouldn't worry too much yet...
Good luck to everyone!!

I am just getting in on this thread. I am taking Micro along with A&P II and my Chemistry class which is a combination organic and biochemistry. I find that all three class work together. I'm having a hard time with my Micro class because it is online and there is ALOT of work to this class. The instructor pulls things that I don't expect out of the material. I have the basic concepts down and will get hung up in a minutia question. I had straight A's last semester (my first of pre-reqs) and Micro is not a pre-req for us, but am worried about my grade in the class and kind of wishing I had waited to take it until after I got accepted into nursing school. We only have 4 tests in Micro and then 4 assignments which are already done, so there isn't much leeway if you don't do really well on the test. I did better than the average last test, but still had a C on the test. I'll keep plugging away and if I have to retake it because I don't like my grade I will. Glad I'm not alone!!
