You can do it!!! I never went on basic math I didn't take any math at all in high school I squeeked thru the system. I did really well once I set my mind to it, I did take it one class at a time with math which helped alot. good luck if you need any help at all just come back here!

Thank you so much everyone for the math links. I have my first math Intro to Algebra this Spring semester and I really need all the help I can get. It does help that our college has free tutoring too, but when you're at home and you're stuck, who's going to go out driving to get help? I'd rather see if I can figure it out by other methods taught from internet sites first.

I just need to go get a graphics calculator after class starts to see if the instructor prefers a specific kind.

Hey All ~ This isn't a link, but an optional book for my Math 60 class this Winter. It's called "Take the Fear out of Basic Algebra" by Kimberly Neuberger. It looks like she has a series of books around math anxiety. I love that her number one step to cope with math anxiety is: "training yourself to believe you CAN do math".

She also recommends mind tricks like writing "I will get an A" on the top of quizzes and tests. I love it!

I'll have to look into that. I read something similar lately about chemistry too. That you should have a positive attitude towards it. Make peace with it and master it!

I think its like that for any class the more you have an interest the better you will do. For me it was small baby steps the better I did each time was food for the next time I worked hard and my grades reflected it, once I realized I could learn this stuff it became a huge motivator. I never in my life thought i could do Chemistry put off going thru with my pre reqs when I found out I would need Chem. Turns out i could do it and really enjoyed it, it was math but with more definitions and suddenly realized the math part was so easy.

I try to have a positive attitude about all my classes, whenever anyone else groans about an essay or a project i try to look at it as more things I will learn, its all stuff we will need as nurses anyway so might as well try to enjoy it.

My favorite math help site is www.mathxp.com. They have tons of free pdf books on various math subjects. I used Algebra Demystified to refresh before taking my placement exam. It covered so much I actually tested into a more advanced math class than I was hoping for. I think it is one of the reasons I did so well in college algebra. Very methodical with lots of problems.

Surprisingly we didn't have tot ake a math course in nursing school. Thank goodness. We did have to take a preadmission SAT Math achievement test. HS math was my downfall, I took Alg II twice, but when I finished college and started doing medication math I did great. In those intervening years I guess something just clicked. I could usually do problems in my head and then recheck on paper. I know there must be a term for stuff that just pops up like that.

If your willing to pay 20something dollars a month, then this is the best program! It's called Aleks. www.aleks.com. I have been using it for studying for my NET and also the accuplacure. I never took math in high school... squeezed through the system as someone else said and have hated it for as long as I can remember. This program is like having your own personal tutor. Now I can do the basic math and passed the accuplacure into elem algebra! Plan to keep using it through my algebra course... so wanted to find a place to share it all with you as well. Hope it helps.
