Lets stop smoking

Well I am now on my way to nursing school in the fall. I have always said when I got into nursing school I would stop smoking....so here goes.

I took this free course online which was great. I feel ready!!!!
http://www.quitsmokingonline.com/aboutus.htm

I got my patches, my gum as a back up, a bag of dum-dum pops, sunflower seeds, and I am ready to go.

I plan on having my last cigarette tomorrow afternoon.

Any of you smokers out there want to join my in my quit.

Come on....you know it's time.

Good for you, Coolpeach. Just think, with all the money you save you will be able to afford NS! I quit when I was pregnant with my daughter (many moons ago) so I know what you are giving up, but I PROMISE what you get back by not smoking is SOOOO worth it. You will be amazed at how good you feel. You can do it.

Re: Lets stop smoking

This is just what I needed for that extra shove. I too am planning on going to school very soon, and if for no other reason, I feel like a hypocrite advocating and promoting good health as a nurse, and then puffing away behind the scenes. I have one pack left out of my carton which I will finish tomorrow and then I will take a leaf out of your book and do everything that you have done. I will buy all the goodies you suggested tomorrow etc.. ..........Thanks for being brave enough to air this topic. It is subject to ridicule!

Success is trying and failing and trying again until you don't have to try anymore, because you can.

Re: Lets stop smoking

Thanks for the support everyone....it looks like me and the degraypoole are going to quit smoking.

Graypoole,

That link I listed about is awsome. Its free, and it really motivated me to quit...check it out. I am going to smoke my last cig some time tomorrow afternoon. I am ready. I hate the way I smell, and that you can't smell all my bath and body works stuff cause of the ciggy smell. I hate the occasional holes I burn in my clothes...and the butts and the ashes YUK. I hate always having to think about where and when I can smoke (it can really distract me, and ruin a good day). This summer I got my son and I water park season passes (this is the last summer before I will be doing clinicals or working full time), and I don't want to spend it miserable wondering when I can sneak off to the car to smoke. I also don't want to be a nurse who smokes or smells like smoke. I don't want yellow teeth, yellow nails, lung cancer, old prematurely wrinkled skin, and all the other nasty stuff we studied about...It is just time to quit.

Lets do it...

Re: Lets stop smoking

P.S. Here are some useful links

Awsome free stop smoking course that made me want to quit.
http://www.quitsmokingonline.com/aboutus.htm

Online support system. It is free (which is what I am using) or you can get a premium membership.
http://quitnet.com/

Very sad stories, videos, and pictures of people who have died of cancer due to smoking....MAJOR SHOCK VALUE
http://www.whyquit.com/

Site where you can download a cool little gizmo onto your computer. You type in when you quit, how much you usually smoke, how much it usually costs etc. It keeps an ongoing tab of how long you have been smoke free (down to the second), how much money you have saved, and how much life you have saved. VERY MOTIVATING

Exclamation Re: Lets stop smoking

Best wishes for you! My husband is going on his 3rd month of smoke-free; he smoked Newports a pack a day for 13 years and though I can not feel it from his and your points I can feel it from someone on the "outsides" point. He is using Chantix, and yes he has had his moments but it has worked phenominally for him. He is still his normal self and basically NONE of those moments, just wanted to pass along the info(my doctors assistant told me) espically when you are in the program.
You CAN do it !!!

Re: Lets stop smoking

Best of Luck to you all.
My Husband and I quit New Years day 06. We had tried many times before, but something was right that time. I can proudly say I have been smoke free since and I feel great!! I will be hard, but its mostly mind over matter. Every blue moon I get a craving then its gone as quick as it came.
You can and will do it.

Re: Lets stop smoking

I want to quit smoking also, and my plans are to quit as soon as i get to my clinicals, reason being,

in June, july and august, i will be taking my AP1,AP2, and micro.

will be going to school from 8 am to 1 pm, and will be working 330 to midnight, so cant take the edge of not smoking then, but right after that i will do so!!!

even though i have like 5 cigarettes per day "tops" that is still too much!
