Leaving Military Service for College

I am looking into different places to Pursue my Nursing Certification and then my BSN. I am currently a Resident of Colorado, and would prefer to go to school there or Philadelphia. I'm trying to figure out any place I could go to find schools with no or minimal waiting list that will accept the Montgomery G.I. Bill.

Any help would be Greatly appreciated,

Roderick

I'm looking to do the same thing. You can use your MGIB and nearly any accredited school (community college or traditional college). The waiting lists seem to be longer at community colleges but it's going to vary as far as where you're looking; I'm not familiar with those areas. You can get an Associates Degree at a community college and a BSN at the traditional college (if you already have a good portion of your schooling done, you can look for accelerated BSN programs - that's what I'm applying for).

The only thing I didn't know regarding the GI Bill is that it doesn't cover pre-requisite courses (so I have to pay for anatomy/physiology/microbiology out of pocket).

What branch are you in? I'm in the Air Force.

The GI bill DOES pay for pre-req classes, like anatomy, physio, micro, for the nursing major. The GI bill only pays for classes that are needed for your major. So,if you're majoring in nursing, the GI bill won't pay for an accounting class, because you don't need it.

That's interesting. I called them with that question and was told in no way shape or form that they would pay for the pre-reqs. Hmm. I will try again.

Re: Leaving Military Service for College

Okay, I called the VA again about the pre-requisites and this is what I was told. To use the MGIB for pre-requisites, you MUST still be enrolled in the degree program.

In my case, I need pre-requisites so I can be accepted into an accelerated BSN program at a 4 year university, but I won't be in a degree program until the pre-requisites are completed. So I am not allowed to use the MGIB.

I guess if you are in a pre-nursing program, you're still enrolled in an actual program...
