to Nursing School and turned it down and why?

Would you attend a school that only has a 70% pass rate?

I'm a little hesitant on a school that I've been accepted to but I really do wanna just get it over with. I'll have to wait at least another year before getting accepted to a "better" school that I'm interested in.

Hi the decision is yours to make but if it were me i'd go for it.If you are really interested then you should make sure your in that 70%.Where i applied out of 90 students less than 20 pass but that has no bearing on me.

$520 a credit is crazy- my cc is $70 a credit. The books are more expensive than the classes. Look for something more reasonable price wise.

I applied to two schools. I chose to turn down one because
school 1--the one I will not attend
Costs more
Has lower NCLEX pass rate
and will require me to put my children in daycare 5days a week
On the flip side I really liked their clinical sites and it was a small private school

School two only req's me to put my children in daycare 2-3 days a week,
is cheaper, and has higher NCLEX passing rate. The only drawback is that I will have to attend an extra semester and it is 10min. further drive but my clinical is close to home.

I don't know if I'd go to a school with a 70% pass rate. That is a tough call, especially since we are all so eager to start. In two years if you don't pass the NCLEX then you will have wasted two years, in a year you can apply to a "better" school but even then there is no guarantee, right? It's a tough call. Can you take an NCLEX prep course upon finishing to help make sure you are in that 70%?

I got accepted into 2 programs, ADN & BSN. It took some time to weigh the pros and cons (both school had great NCLEX pass rates), but I decided on the BSN program because I know I wanted to go directly to grad school.

To me, it would depend on if it was the first year that they have been at 70%. Some schools improve after one year. If the school has a consecutive history of being under 70%, I'd think twice about it. Plus, at that price, it's a huge gamble.

Have you talked to anyone that is currently in the program? Their input might assist you making your decision. Plus, like the others suggested, you can just make sure you're one of the people who pass by properly preparing for the exam!

Good luck! I know it's a hard choice to make, but just decide what's best for you!

I turned down a private catholic school...BSN program. The accepted me to begin Aug08. They also didn't do me very well with my transfer credits. Seams they didn't like to accept military schools. The $24500 a year tuition didn't help either. I would have graduated with a BSN three years from now.
I was also accepted to a ADN program at a Miami Dade College. FAR CHEEPER, and I will be done in two years. I took the two year route. I'll be working sooner, with no dept. Plenty of time to get a BSN later.

Whoa. That's certainly a lot for an ASN program. I paid less that that for my post-master's degree classes.

I didn't think that a school could have 70% pass rate (that is if your talking about NCLEX). Wouldn't that school be on the probation list? Your school is more expensive than my school and I will be attending a private school. So my answer is no I would not attend a school like that if I was accepted to that school with that tuition rate and low pass rate. Highly unlikely I would ever attend.

Yeah, you're right. It is a private school also. And yes, the 70% was for the NCLEX in 2006; in 2005, the pass rate was 47% (or something like that). I could have dealt with one or the other (pass rate or tuition). But, a combination of both, I've realized, is ridiculous.
