Hi. I'm 38 and mom of 2 beautiful and very proud boys ( 8 & 10 ). Also married to a great man who's very positive abt prospect of me wanting to become an LPN. Only problem is, I think that they have more confidence in me than I do. You see, I was a "C/B" student in h.s. and my SAT score was far from great. Of course, it's been 20 yrs since I graduated and I've become much more knowledgable as years went by and alot more serious abt what I want to do w/ my life.
Anyone out there who's in or was in same shoes and has made it into nursing school ?
I'm starting my prep course in Jan .. lasts until March. Then I take entrance exam. I really want this badly, but, I'm worried abt letting my family and myself down and not passing entrance exam.
Any advice ?

I'm only 27, and I was pretty much a "B" student in high school. I failed/dropped out of college twice, was homeless, had a substance abuse problem, gave birth to 2 kids, then worked a full-time job and took classes at night for six years before I started nursing school this year.

I think a certain level of intelligence is wonderful - but hard work and dedication are ultimately the keys to success (I believe). I think that someone can do anything they set their mind to... so if you really want to go to nursing school, well, where there's a will - there's a way!

I was pretty much a B student as well, and now I am retaking my prereqs to get A's. I think age and just the extreme will to do it will get you through. From what I have read on this website, even if classes don't turn out the way you want the first time, DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I was a poor student in high school. When I took my ACT prior to entering nursing school I scored high enough to enter the LPN program. At 27, I am alot more serious about my studies as my study habits have immensely improved (however, they're still not to where they should be).

I just completed my first semester of LPN school. Although it wasn't successful, I thorougly enjoyed it. I got a chance to persue my dream and I'm going to continue. So just keep that positive attitude and you'll make it just fine.

Let me tell you I graduated high school in 1996 taking business classes with a 2.0 GPA. Never even took the SAT's. Was admitted to my university on a provisional status, had a 3.8 GPA in my pre-reqs and am holding a 3.5 in my ADN program with 1 semester left. Oh and I have also been awarded about $10,000 total in academic scholarships. You are in great shape believe me. I am sure you will do fine, anything is possable once you put your mind to it. Good luck. You're a completely different person with different priorities and experiences now than you were back then. Don't use high school as a predictor as how you're going to do in nursing school.

I think personal drive and the true desire to be a nurse is what gets us through. It's a tough program and you need determination as well as book smarts, good luck. Having a supportive husband and family is going to be the biggest asset you've got.
