Help! I need a topic for an informative speech!

The informative speech is for my communications class. Everyone in this class knows I am going into nursing and would like to kinda do it on a nursing related topic to give me credibility but I am stumped. I need to have the main topic and then 3 claims that I can support with evidence and everything I have been looking at has been too intricate or too vague. Does anyone have any ideas? TIA!

There are different types of informative speech...some of them are instructional, some of them are educational....can you clarify? Did he give you some examples?

How about the nursing shortage? If you go to the State Board of nursing for your state you will be able to find lots of information on the subject. Or you could discuss RN to BSN: Pros vs. Cons. I have seen both done for a communication class. Our class used NYSNA's (New York State Nursing Association) website for a lot of information.

Good Luck

Re: Help! I need a topic for an informative speech!

I am currently enrolled in a communications (speech) class, and half of my class gave their informative speeches yesterday. My topic involved the unique issues faced by working-class college students. Here are some other informative speech topics that were the basis of my classmates' various speeches:

1. How hockey equipment has evolved
2. What one can do with a law degree
3. Serial killers
4. Addiction
5. Depression
6. Child molestation

As expected, all of these speeches were informative in nature.

Re: Help! I need a topic for an informative speech!

Perhaps you might consider covering the topic of what a nurse does. I have heard it a lot this semester that many people, including some nurses, don't fully understand what it is a nurse does. The general public has a tendency to think all nurses do is wipe butts and hand out medications. It would be a cool idea to help educate others more on what our position really is. Maybe if the public were more knowledgeable about what our jobs are, they wouldn't look at us like room service type people during hospital stays quite so much. Just a thought!

How burn out has created a nursing shortage:
How will the babyboomers aging affect the nursing shortage?
Why does it seem less and less elders are making the decision to enter nursing homes?

Try to be very specific on your topic. You don't want something open ended.

How about something directly related to the health of college-aged students....HIV, HPV, STDs in general? There are some astounding statistics that I bet a WHOLE bunch of them are ignorant about.

By doing something like this, you are also doing something VERY important in the nursing profession -- educating.

Best wishes!!

This topic might be too new for you to find published data to establish and support 3 claims: there is now controversy concerning the mandatory vaccination of young girls with gardasil to prevent HPV infection. As you know the state of TX has passed a law requiring the vaccination and other states are considering it.

I have been blamed for alot of thing but not the nursing shortage. (just a pun on names haha)

How about how an informative speech on use of an AED device. Maybe contact your local Redcross chapter and maybe someone could bring one in so the class could have hands on practice..or would that be a demonstration? Either way it sounds like an A to me.
