Has anyone on here taken the NLN pre-entrance exam yet? If so what was it like...how hard was it? Just curious because I am very nervous about taking it. The college that I want to get into requires that you have at least a 100 on the exam in order for them to consider you. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hello, I've tooken the NLN accelerated exam to transition into the ADN progam at the community college I attend (Lpn to Rn) and yes the test was hard and it would have been harder if I hadn't studied. So try and find out about the best method to prepare for the exam. I hope I helped you out. Good luck!

I took the NLN last year. Scored 133. I purchased an NLN Pre-Entrance study guide book, and used it a lot. I also used my dh's Algebra text book from college, because algebra is not my strong suit. I started studying about 2 months ahead, and am very glad I did. I was accepted into the ADN program first time, not wait-listed. Good luck!!!

It is a difficult exam if you don't study. Brush up on all math concepts, including algebra and geometry. Know the stuff w/o using a calculator, because they are not allowed in the exam.

For the reading portion, be able to read quickly but thoroughly. Time really does fly in these exams, and if you have to go back and re-read portions of a story, you may not get all of the questions answered. I think I fell 3 questions short at the end of that. I couldn't believe it took me that long.

For the science portion, it's a crap shoot. I got a LOT of questions on electricity - OHM's and stuff I had NO CLUE about. I'd be sure to brush up on basic chemistry - symbols, atoms, etc. And basic human biology. But it really is a broad subject, so don't get too specific.

Someone told me to study subjects found in the first year "basic" courses in college. I did that, and it worked out well.

Thanks everyone...do you remember what study guide you used to study? I bought the study guide written by The National Nursing League but if there are other books that can give additional help I'll get those also. This means so much to me and I want to do well. Thanks for all the advice.

I would highly recommend getting the study guide to review and do not wait until a couple of weeks before. I did alright, but I was not accepted to the Nursing School here at the univeristy due to not having A&P or Chemistry/Physical Science. After talking to the Dean of the school, I realized this was for the best since doing all of the pre-reqs first is not as intense...

At least now I know what to expect.

Also, check half.com or another site that sells books and order a study guide for review. I paid $11 for mine and it was brand new.

A very wise investment.

I used the NLN pre-entrance exam study guide by Mary E. McDonald 2nd Edition. My school recommends it. It is much similar like the actual exam (different questions of course ).

You can more than likely check it out from your library or go to your local book store (Barnes and Nobles/Borders, etc...) and compare them before you buy.

The exam is timed (3 one hour sections). The subjects are: Science,(60 Q's-covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science) Verbal Ability (60Q's-covering word knowledge and reading comprehension), and Math (40 Q's-covering algebra, decimals, intergers, fractions, geometry, etc... NOTE you cannot use calculator). Try taking the sample tests and reviewing the math section for info.

Hope this somewhat helps answer your question. This is what was on when I took it (7 months ago), and of course may not be 100% accurate or exactly how your school does things.
