Re: Going back to school and I feel DUMB!

Check your local library for high school math study books. I've got three out right now and I've found which one I like enough to buy.

P.S. I've been back in school now for almost 2 years and I still feel dumb. It's highly motivating. I study more now than I ever did before kids.

Re: Going back to school and I feel DUMB!

Wow and i thought i was the only one that was feeling dumb. I am having to take comp II and it is so hard. I am not the best person when it comes to math and english. I grad in 98 so it has been awhile for me also. I knew it was going to be hard, having two kids 2 and 5 and trying to go to school. But i guess i sugar coated it when i was enrolling, thinking to my self, how hard can it really be. HAHAH Very hard!!! I am just glade i am not alone. I wish everyone the best. Amanda

Re: Going back to school and I feel DUMB!

I do sometimes panic at how hard nursing courses will be next semester when I really get into the nursing core courses. But the thing that is quite nice for me is that I am not going to school for nursing because I have to, or because of the decent pay, or because I am now out of my high-paying career. I am lucky in that I can go to college, get into the core courses, and decide I don't like it or I don't want to be there. And I will not be hurting anyone or suffering if I find out later that nursing is not for me. This is what I think makes it even more enjoyable and interesting for me as an old lady with lots of kids (ha ha).

Re: Going back to school and I feel DUMB!

It's so comforting to know that I'm not the only one feeling this way!

I took my math placement test and I did pretty bad. I was placed in elementary algebra. Which is good I guess because I'd rather re-learn it all and have it fresh in my mind, than barely pass the test and be placed in a class that's too hard for me right now.

Re: Going back to school and I feel DUMB!

Ok about feeling dumb i am taking comp II and i just got back a essay that i wrote and my professor liked it but it had to many grammer errors in it. On that note does anyone know of a source, website, that checks for your grammer mistakes? I know grammer is not my strong point, i just don't want to make a c in this class because of grammer. Any help would be great!!! Thanks Amanda

Re: Going back to school and I feel DUMB!

I had to start with beginning algebra also. I finished with a C+. I am in intermediate now. Still hanging in there. I graduated high school in 1978. So it has been wayyyy too long. But I can do it, anyone can...Sharon

Well, I just took a look at an example of what a math placement test might look like to get into my local community college and it was stuff that used to be really easy for me, but now.....I don't know ANY of it! I was so confused!!!! This is basic algebra that I could do in my sleep back in the day...but now....I feel like an idiot. I guess the pregnancies+countless sleepless nights+being a mommy 24/7 has really taken it's toll on the old noggin. I'm really discouraged.

I felt the same way when I first went back. My high school math teacher told us we would use algebra every day of our lives....I think NOT! When I first started I took a refresher in algebra and geometry, I felt kinda dumb in my remedial math classes but it really did help me when I went to take my placement exams for the nursing school that I applied to. The advisers actually laughed at my results because I BOMBED the basic arithmetic but aced the algebra portion of the test. My score was 55/ basic arithmetic 99/ algebra for a cumulative of somewhere in the mid 80s. The algebra refresher was worth the time an effort. Now, if only I could add and subtract....

You're not alone, good luck!
