I'm doing prereqs at FCCJ now. I just happened to see this thread. I didn't see anything about points on their website for nursing information. Can someone fill me in?
Also, it seems like they have prerequisites (the big 5) and corequisites (like psych). Does this points thing mean you should take all the corequisites before applying to up your points?

Yes. You can be enrolled in Chemistry when you apply, but ALL of the other prereqs have to be completed before applying, including Comp 1, Psych, etc.... Work hard to have great grades. Get the Arco Nursing School and Allied Health Entrance Exams book maybe 2 months before taking the NAT test so that you can review and make sure you're familiar with how the test will be. (The Arco book is a bit harder than the actual NAT test.) Also, I highly recommend going to the north campus for an orientation/Q&A session they offer students who are simply interested in getting into the nursing program. It's offered periodically and can provide a wealth of information. It explains in detail how the point system works, how many students are accepted each semester, and things like that. It was great. No one out that works there will tell you how many points average out, but general consensus is usually between a total of 180 - 185 as the cut off. I'm planning to start in January with 202.32 points. Most of my grades were A's, some B's, and a couple of C's from way back when. Focus on getting A's in A&P I and II and in Microbiology, as these course count for more points than any other course. If you make an A in those three, it gives you a 12 point advantage. If you're going to FCCJ South, take Dianne Fair for Chemistry and Microbiology. She's wonderful, funny, cool, and very helpful and caring. (Check out what's said about her on ratemyprofessor.com if you want more incredible recommendations about her.) Good luck!

blues24,
The only classes that MUST be completed before applying are A&P I and II, Chemistry, College Algebra (or higher), and have to at least be enrolled in Microbiology. The other 5 classes can be completed while you're in the program. The only thing is that the more you have done, the more points you will have when applying. I just applied w/ 190 points- but I'm enrolled in Micro and sociology now, so that could've been an extra 28 points if I had those completed. But, why not apply now and see if I could get in w/out those extra points- see what I mean?
Another suggestion- make sure you take the NAT early enough to be able to take it again before you apply. Almost always, you will score higher the 2nd time- it's the EXACT same test! But, you must wait 90 days between testing- and can only take it 2x in a year's time... Just keep those things in mind!
Where are you taking your classes? Maybe I could recommend some teachers....

Hey everyone... We're 2.5 weeks into our long wait for the acceptance letter. I keep hearing they send out letters around 5 weeks, not 8. (let's hope) So.... We're halfway there! Woo-hoo! I am starting to get antsy more as it gets closer!

I've heard the same thing- abt. 5 weeks usually.... I can barely stand it. I find myself running for the mail everyday, even though it's weeks away!!
