Unhappy Does lack of motivation means no no to nursing?

Hey Everyone

I just want to ask for some advice or encouragement if I may? This week is finals week for me and right now I am not even motivated to take them. This whole semester to me was a waste I beleive. I know the material , but I am just not focusing on the work and my grades are showing because of that. I am begining to wonder if my lack of motivation with my studies is telling me that nursing may not be for me. I am a new mom so that may be oneof the reasons , but then there are new moms out there who do what is needed to be done. I am transfering to get my bsn , however I have to finish up my pre-req before I can transfer. The CC I am atending is not as helpful as it should and I feel that this is also another factor . When I go to the biology lab there is never any one there to assist the students because its runned by students so I donteven bother. I hope someone can just share a word of encouragement. Thanks
Nichole

If you are unsure maybe you can shadow a nurse in your area. That may help you decide if nursing is really what you want. I know after I had both of my kids I wasn't very motivated to do anything that took me away from them. That could be a big factor for you and not so big for others. If you are not in hurry maybe take a semester off to be with your baby and find a renewed motivation!

You need to step up and take responsibility for your actions (or lack of them). Forget your baby. Forget your bad college. Starting going over all of your notes in a barricaded room where nothing except for a bit of light from a small window can get into the room and study you ass off! This is how you survive finals week!

Personally, I think if I gave up on everything I wasn't particularly motivated to do, I'd be in a mess.

No, I don't think yes because you are feeling unmotivated now it means you don't need to be a nurse.

How old is your baby? Did this lack of motivation start only after the baby was born? Could be related.

Re: Does lack of motivation means no no to nursing?

are you doubting that you want a nurse or do you just have schoolitis? I just completed my first year of a BSN and I was so ready for finals to be over with that It was hard to make myself study. Not because I do not like school or not because I don't want to be a nurse, but because I was burnt out, but after busting my hump to get an A- in patho and pharm it is understandable why I was ready for a break. This last week has been relaxing.

Yes I feel that me not focusing on my studies is leading me to believe that nursing isnt for me. I lie school but the issue is that Instead of going forward and progressing I am going two steps backwards and messing myself up. I am trying to take to many class at once thenI have to deal with coming home and being with my son. Its like if I feel like if I dont hurry and take these classes I feel like I am going to miss out. I have been doing this since 2001 andI still cant get it right.

I graduated hs in 01 and went a cc for pre-nursing , I got discourage becuase of the wait and left to go to another school . I got my associates in health and I statred working for an insurance company. Long story short I had my son stopped working, went back to school . I just want this , but my question to myself is at what cost? I am so giving to everyone and when it comes to me I dont see people being there for me. Thanks for listening to my bable.

My son is going on 11 months and and boy is he a handful, so this is where the no time to study comes in . I quickly give up becuase all I do is go to school and then come home to my son.

Your right I do need to take responsibilty . I am the type to find reason or fault for anything and when things dont go as should I question if this is for me. I cant forget my son. I just at a lost at the moment. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks , I am in a hurry, but being in a hurry is what is messing me up big time . I am rushing to take all these classes and not getting no where . On top of that I havemy son who has my focus I just want to be able to get somewhere.

I don't think this is necessary. Especially forget the baby part. That's rediculous. I have 3 kids and as much as I was ready for the semester to end, I was able to get through it and still be a mom to my kids.

IMO, you just need to do what you can to get through it. I have a feeling you just have summeritis more than anything. Once you are done with your finals, you will have a break (right??)... take it and spend it with your family and do something nice for yourself. If after a few weeks of freedom, you still feel like school/ nursing isn't for you, then maybe you can re-evaluate your situation. But for now, I would chalk it up to a long year and a very anticipated break.

Good luck to you!
