Re: Do you have to buy a stethoscope?

yup, unless you want to try a paper towel tube......lol
get a decent one and have your name engraved/etched on it IMMEDIATELY
and attach something to that will make it obvious that it is yours....yes this is the voice of experience!!

Re: Do you have to buy a stethoscope?

I would buy your own. Even if the school buys one for you it's most likely going to be a cheap one you can't hear anything out of.

Do nursing programs normally provide them to students?
All the schools I know of have students buy their own. I would definitely go with a Littmann and label it with your name (get one of those attachable name tags). I have a Littman III Cardiology one and it's excellent for listening for adults and pediatric patients (two sided bell). Don't get a cheap one because you'll miss out on hearing the nuances. Congrats on getting accepted! :hatparty:

Of course you'll need a stethoscope. You're going to need one anyway to be a nurse.

Re: Do you have to buy a stethoscope?

We have to get a "lab kit" that has a steth in it but I decided that I want to have a big advantage of having a nicer one so I am buying another one. I'll end up having three when it's all said and done.

Go out and buy a stethoscope if you want to buy one!!! You'll use it for clinicals. Even if you get one through the school, wouldn't it be nice to have one you like that shows your personality a bit more?

Re: Do you have to buy a stethoscope?

I got a Littmann Cardiology III from allheart and it wasn't too awfully expensive, considering it has a 5 year warranty. I can hardly wait to learn to use it properly!

Re: Do you have to buy a stethoscope?

I would buy one anyway. I plan on getting a Littman Classic II S.E., I like the variety of colors and its lightweight and you can hear pretty well with it. It is recommended for nurses and students, so that is what I'm looking to get.

Oh man. I see a lot of "SOMEONE WALKED OFF WITH MY LITTMAN " posts coming in the future...
