Do I have a chance?

I just talked to a friend of mine. She told me to just go get a job as an LPN because the amount of applicants to the local cc is 600 applicant for 40 positions. The other college two hours away is 2000 applicants for 90 postitions. I have a 4.0 gpa, a 99 percentile on the NLN, and am a LPN. I think I have a fair chance, but she acted like I won't be able to get in and I may as well just go get a job. What do you all think? What does a 4.0 get you? Do I have a chance?

I'd go for it. A 4.0 is as good as it gets. Just go talk to an advisor at the community college and see what they say. It sounds to me like you're a shoe in!

Re: Do I have a chance?

I think you have an excellent chance and the LPN option is always there as a backup.

In my state, LPN's are required to take Survey of A&P and the RN candidates A&P I & A&P II. Just a heads up if that also applies in your state. Unfortunately, the Survey class doesn't count toward anything.
At least that is how it is here and a major point of angst for LPN's.

I think you stand a great chance of getting accepted. I would definitely apply and use the LPN as backup! Good Luck!!!

Re: Do I have a chance?

Unless your friend is on the admissions commitee and has the final say as to whther or not you get in, don't let her discourage from applying. Yes, 40 get chosen for the program, but what if you become one of those 40 people? You won't know unless you try. Good Luck!

Re: Do I have a chance?

I should think that you would have an amazing shot at getting in. My advice would be to apply to your school and stay positive; don't let your friend discourage you. Good luck! And congratulations on your 4.0 GPA and NLN scores, that is something you should be truly proud of!!
