Question Confused Pre-nurse (help pls)

i'm just 16 & i'm planning to take nursing. But I heard it was hard and all that. I took science for my high school course and I fear that I might have difficulties with it. Should I still consider nursing?

You will never know until you try. See your guidance counselor at your school and find out what classes are required for nursing school where you live and continue to take these classes. You can accomplish this if you really want it and work very hard. You might also try to volunteer in a health care setting that allows volunteers your age to get a feel for what it is to be working around the sick. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

I don't know what the education system in Hong Kong is like, but I know that in the US that high school science courses offer a very broad introduction to a subject.

What I would do is look at why you didn't do well in this course. Did you find certian topics hard or boring. What were they and how will they relate to your future goals. College and High School are very different worlds, with very different course work.

See if you have a hospital near by where you can volunteer or perhaps even get some part time work. In our school district highschoolers are required so many volunteer hours for graduation, it would be a good oppurtunity to follow some nurses and see if its a field you would like to pursue further. You will be fine with the sciences once you get older and more experience it will start to click, don't worry about the course work just study hard and do your best and you will do fine. Its great you are so young and looking at your future goals, Kudos to you!

good luck.

yes if not harder because there is more at stake, but if you have the passion and you study hard you will do fine, Nursing is a life long learning process you never stop.

Re: Confused Pre-nurse (help pls)

Nursing is a passion-- you will know quickly once you begin your studies whether or not you want to persue it. If you do, you will force yourself into a good work ethic, no matter how hard your classes may be. If the stress of studying and clinicals is too great and making you unhappy, chances are the passion is just not there, and that's okay. You can always study something else instead!
Don't let struggling with science in high school discourage you. I was a terrible science student in high school because those classes are very boring and general. Once you begin learning about how all those "boring" concepts apply to a human and about how nurses participate in caring for and healing people, it may make more sense and become more interesting and easier for you. That's what happened for me! I got a C in my high school biology class, and in college have been getting A's.
Good luck!

Re: Confused Pre-nurse (help pls)

Does your high school offer nursing electives? I took several in highschool and found out I loved it. I also took a phlebotomy class in highschool to see if the hospital is where I would want to be, and it is!
