Need Information - Condensed A&P

Hi All - I am taking a condensed A&P over 1 semester this fall. This is basically I and II combined and accelerated. I really would prefer to do this over 2 semesters but I can't- My nursing program is starting this fall I Have to have them completed by Dec to continue on. There are no summer offerings in my area either.

I would like to get a jump start on memorizing some things this summer since I will be taking nursing course this fall too.....what do you suggest I get down now to make this easier this fall?

Re: Condensed A&P

The single-semester A&P course was the only option at the university I attended. It was fast-paced, and intense, but not overwhelming. It was also a 6 credit-hour course, so I took a fairly light academic load along with it. (Growth and Development for Healthcare, English Composition, and a Humanities course.)

Can you contact the department and ask for textbook information so that you can begin reading ahead? Also if the class is offered in summer session, perhaps you could audit the lecture.

I realize that everyone has different interests and aptitudes, but I didn't find A&P to be terribly difficult. Time consuming, yes. Difficult, no. Don't let yourself get "psyched out" by other student's horror stories.

For me, the physiology part was the much more difficult part of A&P. Physiology is so complex, I would recommend just waiting and learning from your instructor. But if you are wanting to get a jumpstart on the course, I would practice the anatomy, inside the body and outside, start learning the medical names for what we call things. Also, what really helped me the most was taking medical terminology before A&P, I would recommend it if its possible. Good luck, I couldn't imagine taking A&P in one accelerated course, I took A&P I in the fall and A&P II in the spring, whew!

Re: Condensed A&P

I am doing A&P I & II over the summer. So we are probably both buts!
I think a good thing to do is know (just have a good understanding of it)
Skeletal system
Cardiovascular system and know where major arteries & veins go
Muscules
Terminology as Happilymarried suggested is good - if words are familiar and say for example you know where the brachial artery is and where you would find a biceps you wont be floundering on where to find the biceps brachii.

And yes - dont get freaked out by other peoples stories. Just about everybody told me I was nuts for attempting to do summer A&P. Yeah okay it is consuming my summer but it sure beats spending a year doing it.
It will be easier if it is not all foreign.
