Question which Chemistry class???? help please

Hi everybody!
I'm sooooooooooooo confused on which chemistry class i should take this summer. Im currently enrolled in Chemistry 101 Today was my first class but I thought it was too much! its five hours with only a 15 minute break. I feel so insecure. I took a chem class in High School but I struggled through it. This CC im attending has fundamentals of chemistry or introduction to chemistry which is the same class so now Im very confused on which class i should take. Also, how many darn chemistry classes do we have to take for nursing? my belief is that most schools only require fundamentals of chemistry or an introductory course. In this CC you first take
Fundamentals of chemistry (if you havent taken a chem class before)
Chem 101
chem 102
organic chemistry
biochemistry
DO WE HAVE TO TAKE ALL OF THESE CLASSES FOR NURSING??? IM GONNA DIE IF WE DO.....MY HEAD FEELS LIKE IT WAS BEATEN WITH A HAMMER...LIKE A GAZILLION TIMES! IM WAY IN OVER MY HEAD!

pleasseeee HELP me! I

How chemistry that is why I am taking it LAST! Not one of my favorites. Anyway it depends on your school. Mine requires intro to chem. and Physics so that is what I have to take. My introductory chem. would not transfer so check with your school and see what they require.

If you're in a nursing program offered by your CC, the person to ask would be your academic advisor. If you're at a CC and looking to apply to a nursing program at another school, you would want to talk with advising staff at the new school for program requirements and prereqs.

Good luck!

Check out this thread on the General Nursing Student Discussion Forum. I just posted a list of web links to help with studying chemistry plus some advice on studying chemistry.
http://allnurses.com/forums/f50/chemistry-help-162468.html

As far as what chemistry classes to take. . .you need to check the college catalog and/or talk with a counselor at the school. They are really the only ones who can help you determine which chemistry class you need to take. The college catalog will tell you which classes need to be taken as pre-requisites before you can take a higher level chemistry. You really need to look at that information rather than be asking about it here.

Re: which Chemistry class???? help please

If you find that you have to take any of these classes that you feel are you weaker in, then I suggest a number of ways that can help you. But, remember to do this early on, as if you wait too late, it will get even harder:

Find a study group and meet with them once or twice a week for a couple of hours to get homework done, study for exams, etc. Try to get down to business and don't join a study group that spends more time socializing than studying. Find a study area, preferably at school, in which you can meet. You will find that by helping each other work through the problems, you will cement this into your head.....at least until the semester is over...lol!!!

Some schools have an academic tutor that meets throughout the semester. Take advantage of this, as an adjunct to your studying group. If your school does not offer this and you can afford to, then you may want to consider hiring one.

Take advantage of study help and workbooks, that are not even on the required textbook list for the class. Going to Barnes and Noble's, you may find one that meets your needs.

Maybe there are some extra study books at the Library, as well.

Stay on top of things. Go to your discussion section (if one is offered) every week and be prepared by having read the chapter and done the homework.

I was so scared when I started my chemistry 101 class, but I plugged along. You will find that other courses that you are taking or have taken may help you out (Physics, microbiology, etc.) They are all interrelated at some point.

Some people who had the toughest time in basic chem did outstanding in organic and biochem. So, if you are having a rough go with basic chem, you may find the others more to your liking.

Five hours of chem at one time would be overwhelming to me, too. I hope you have an interesting professor!

I had to take chem 101, and then chem 102, which was mostly organic with some biochem toward the end. Total of 1 year for both 101 and 102. I am surprised that you have to take so many. Sounds more like a pre-med prereq.

For most ADN programs: Intro/Fundamentals of Chemistry

For BSN programs: Intro/Fundamentals of Chemistry

Re: which Chemistry class???? help please

I started Chem 1 ( what you refer to as Chem 101) last fall and realized that I was way over my head. So I dropped and took Principles of Chem this spring and am now in Chem 1 again. It makes so much more sense!!! I actually showed our lab assistant an easier way to balance equations today that he'd never seen and have been helping a lot of people in my class. I feel comfortable that I'm going to get an A in it now. You can definately tell who in our class to principles first.
I said all of that to say this...most CC's only require a fundamental chem class. If your college requires Chem 1 but you don't feel like you can handle it, I would suggest taking the fundamental class first. It may mean an extra semester, but it would also mean understanding and getting a better grade. I would think it would be extremely hard to take it in the summer if you haven't been adequately prepared. If you decide to stay in, look in to one of the previous suggestions of a tutor - and do it early. It's too hard to play catch up if you get behind in a summer class.
Goodluck with whatever you decide.

Re: which Chemistry class???? help please

ewwwwww chemistry..........

I hated it and am glad it's over....

All I can say is talk to someone in the nursing program and see which one they reccommend. I had to take it as a re-req before even thinking of applying to the nursing program...

What's the difference between the two courses?

Good luck which ever you choose....

If I could make it through with a B, anyone can.....
