Re: Chem Spring 2008

How is everyone doing? I will be so glad when this semester is over and I sure don't want to take chemistry again! Our professor is cramming our 3rd test and the final within the last two weeks of class.

I actually have a question and I'm hoping someone can help me. How do you figure the concentration of H3O+ in a solution with a pH of 8.24? I think I need to work a logarithm and I have NO idea how to do it in my calculator (TI-30XA). If anyone can help me or even tell me how to work this problem in my calculator I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

We're actually learning this now too and I don't get it either. I couldn't figure out how to use my calculator and I have the same one. We're having a quiz on it on Monday so I better figure out quick. I will be soo happy when this class is over. I have a B and I fighting to hold on to it. I have never taken anything soo hard before. I have another test in 2 weeks then the final 4 weeks later. My class went from 21 down to 14 and my teacher prides himself on being the hardest. He says we'll thank him later for it.

Ha! Don't they always say "we'll thank them later"? I hope someone on here can help us. I sat here for over an hour trying to figure out how to get it into the calculator to no avail. I'm right with you trying to hold onto my B. Our professor keeps changing his format every exam, so we never know what to expect. He does tell us the final is standardized and quite difficult. I guess I have something to look forward to.
21 days until the final and it's over (I hope) !!!

Re: Chem Spring 2008

Hi all,
I will be home later tonight and hopefully be able to help out...i'm on Arizona time so it won't be until 11pm or so. If you see this message before heading to bed, can you write out the problem on here so that I can see if I'll be able to help?

I know i'll definitely be happy when this class is over....i'm ready to be done. 4 more weeks to go!! Woo hoo!!!

I found a helpful website that I thought I'd share for "concentration of a solution" and "pH of a solution that has a particular concentration"....all acid/base related. Hope this helps Itsa. I played with my calculator and I finally figured it out with the help of this website. http://www.shodor.org/ucalc/session03/ph.html

Re: Chem Spring 2008

Congrats Alli on the great average! That's awesome. I'm actually doing better in A&P I than I am in Chemistry, so I'm sure you'll do fine in A&P I. I just want to survive Chemistry, hopefully with at least a B. I just don't like it, and my professor has no mercy. I mean it's not his fault I guess that I hate chemistry, but I'm at least going to blame him a little for not being very helpful. Plus, he cancelled about 6 classes this semester and at least 2 labs. It's been pretty much a self taugh course.
