Question - Changing Careers from Admin to RN

I have been in the administrative field for about 20 years working behind a desk all day. I have been thinking about how I am going to handle the change to being on my feet most of the day.

I am not a lazy person but I am in my forties and after sitting on my butt most of my working career it can take a toll after a while. Has anyone else leaving a desk job had this concern? Can anyone tell me their experience with the transition?

I am in the same possition. I am trying to get into nursing school after 13 yrs in a desk job. I have been talking long walks trying to build my endurance back up. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them also.
Thanks, Sandy

I have been doing a lot of walking this past year due to health reasons but it never occured to me that it will help with the transition. I have my own office and a lot of my work days I am the only one in the office. It's nice and quiet and boring. I welcome the change but it's going to be a drastic change and I am a little concerned with how well I am going to adjust.

It may be a silly concern but a very real concern.

Re: Changing Careers from Admin to RN

I'm leaving a desk job I've had for 10 years (will be about 12 before I get going in NS). Before that I taught elementary school and was on my feet all day. I'm looking forward to moving again! Sometimes it's nice to sit all day, but it definitely takes a toll on your health.

Speaking of, I had to start walking regularly. I plan to start visiting the gym to lift some light weights and gains some strength back. I'm also in my 40s, and it's tougher to maintain my strength.

I also plan to stock up on ibuprofin.

I hadnt even thought about this. Hmmm...
Pretty much ever job I've ever had since I was 16 (I'm 28 now) has been an office job. You can tell this by my flat butt. LOL!! I think its time I start walking to get in shape if I plan to apply to NS next spring. Thanks!
