Aspiring nurse

Hi everyone. I am trying to start nursing school in December. I am taking the HESI exam next Thursday (20th.) I bought the study guide and am going to a workshop on Friday from 10-12. Is it easy to pass? Is it important to memorize all of the words in the vocab section? I worry about the Math part the most. It has always been a weakness of mine- I can do the problems but my nerves seem to always get the worst of me However, I am working at a daycare now and make eight an hour so I pray that the motivation of wanting to get out of there will push me through. I will find out the results right away and pray that I won't have to re-take anything.

Re: Aspiring nurse

Hi there - welcome to the board!!

This really is a great place for good information! Whatever you need, someone usually has an answer for you!

I didn't take that test - I took the NLN test. Vocab was my weakest section every time (took it 4 times). I'd say if Math is your weakest section, focus on that. I'm not sure how the vocab part is, but for me, it was difficult...reading comp is what got me through I think! And you said your taking an all day class to prepare? That should help!!! If you have a study guide for the HESI, I would imagine whatever is in there is closest to what you will be taking.

Don't let stress get to you. Go in there and breath...tell yourself you'll do fine!!! I was nervous the first time because of the "unknown" of what would be on the test, but each time, I got less and less nervous and I think that worked to my advantage. You will have done all you can up to that point as far as studying...the rest is up to fate!!!

And if you don't pass the first time, take it again when you can! Don't let it stop you from trying!!! You'll get there eventually!

Best of luck and let us know how you do!

Re: Aspiring nurse

Thank you everyone for your support. I am going to a workshop tomorrow from 10-12. I have to work from 8:30-9:30am then will head off to the workshop. I think that it will give me a little comfort to study at the school- I do have the study guide and have been going over that a little bit. I am going to take the test next Thursday from 10-2. I kind of put the test into perspective for myself- they wouldn't make the test impossible to pass but they also have to make it a little challenging to kind of screen who is trying to get into the program. Nursing takes a lot of commitment and they want people to be serious. I pray that I will pass the first time because it would be a HUGE relief. I will let you know how I do. Take care!
