Re: Anyone taken HESI A2 admission assessment test yet?

Don't stress out abt the test. STUDY YOUR A & P Textbooks and the study guide. Everything else will be ok. If you scored below 19 on your ACT Math; don't worry. Just as long as you can divide/multiply fractions, calculate percentage, and perform a few other 8th grade math calculations--you are going to be fine.

For those of you reading this; who are thinking about going into nursing--take 1 yr of pre-nursing. Knock out ALL of your general education credits before you get caught up in the 3 chapters a class hardcore nursing curriculum. This will adequately prepare you for the HESI as well. I took 16 credit hours per semester for 2 semesters plus a summer in which I dedicated to Microbiology as a transient student. For those of you in A.A.S. nursing seeking B.S.N.; if you have the time--take those extra gen ed courses such as US History and Literature. Most upper-division B.S.N. courses do not even require an entrance exam as they base their decision primarily on your cumulative GPA for all of the lower-division coursework.

Everything is going to be just fine. Don't you worry about a thing.

I bombed it. I have taken A&P I and II and I aced them both, I know them both really well.. Biology I know, its just the basics, math, great at, Chemistry suck at, and reading comp.. whatever! I only got passing grade of 90% in grammar. What the heck? I studied for 3+ days straight and 3 hours over the study guide. Nothing was on the test that the guide went over. I was hearing before on other posts that some was on the test and some was not. Well I confirm it was not. So now I went to barnes and noble and picked up the Kaplan nursing entrance study guide for all entrance test. Its 10X thicker and more detailed about it and gives a reason for the answer as the other guide from the school didnt. Good luck to those taking it.. My school told me when I registered they have yet to see someone pass on the first time. WOW! Doesnt that tell me something.. Bummer.. oh well try try again..

Does any one have any information on this? I greatly appreciate it!

I took the HESI A2 yesterday and it was hard, only because of how you study before(since you dont know what to study for) and how the questions are asked. I am not going to lie. I took both A&P and ACED them, took chem and passed with an A, biology was the same deal and math a B+. I studied forever and nothing prepared me for what was on the test. I knew alot but the stuff I studied in the guide was never asked.
The test at first seems easy and simple but some of questions can get you caught up looking in depth. But dont do that. I thought Chem was gonna be the hardest for me but I actually did better then I thought. I studied the guide that is available through the school for 3+ hours and nothing that I read was on it. It didnt have that many questions to practice on and it just all around reeked.. I bought a Kaplan book for nursing entrance test and it goes way more in depth than the school guide. It actually has questions that were in the test. If it helps make sure you look through the biology and A&P of DNA/RNA, alot of questions were on it about that. That is what got me I think. Good Luck and I hope you do great!!

When I signed up for the December HESI test at my school last week, I got a chance to talk to one of the women working at the Learning Resource Center at my school. I asked her for a Study Guide low-down and she just rolled her eyes, and said the HESI Study Guide is terrible. (She should know, they make the LRC people take the tests they are going to administer, so they know what's on it!) She told me that because the company just got bought by Evolve recently, the whole HESI Admissions Test is in flux. She thinks they will eventually come out with a good HESI A2 study guide, but right now, it's terrible.

I don't have to take the A&P portion, but I do have to take the Chem. and Biology. I took the NET last week and did great on it, but I know the HESI is gonna be a real challenge.

I think more and more schools will eventually move to the HESI A2 as an entrance exam, because they are using the other HESI tests to test their nursing students as they progress through their nursing program.

Re: Anyone taken HESI A2 admission assessment test yet?

there are about 55 questions in math, 55 in vocab, 55 in grammar, 55 questions reading..
only 33 questions in A&P. just make sure you review the major organ systems and functions.
i was one of the last people to finish the test (the test isn't timed). but i started rushing myself and i made careless mistakes! when you are taking a test that is as lengthy as this one, you tend to get robotic and answer them too fast... the key is to slow down... i missed a question about pituitary gland because i didnt give myself enough time to think it through.

Re: Anyone taken HESI A2 admission assessment test yet?

I took the test last thursday and it is pretty hard. I know alot and have wonderful grades and understand alot in the medical field and related subjects but nothing can prepare you for what you dont know. I had no idea what was going to be on the test, so I studied the study guide that was available in the library at the school. You only get 2 hours to go over it and no photocoping.. Boo.. and I scanned over all my a/p books and bio as well. But I ended up double guessing myself because of the answers available to choose or the trickery of the question. Well if it helps I bought a book from barnes and nobles by Kaplan and its for nursing entrance tests. All broads of kinds and it goes into real detail and has a mass array of questions and 2 real test. It cost me I think 20 dollars. Good thing to get if you are unsure. Good Luck!

Re: Anyone taken HESI A2 admission assessment test yet?

I took the HESI A2 on Saturday and do not think I scored too bad for not studying! I took the test at a different Community college than where I'm applying and they did not offer the A&P section, so now I am scheduled to take the HESI for a 2nd time but at the college that I'm applying at which includes the A&P section.
The question that I'm getting at is: Has anyone taken the HESI twice? Is it the SAME test or is there many different versions similar in difficulty? I passed the first time but would like to improve on my scores.
As for the A&P section, can anyone offer any advice on what exactly to study. I have the study guide but not sure what to focus on, I must pass the A&P with a 70% at my CC.
Thanks

My school allows you to take the HESI A2 twice in any admissions cycle (essentially, twice in one year). The program's website says that a different HESI will be administered the second time.

Anyone else out there take the Chem and Bio portions? That's what I'm worried about....
