Anyone getting in shape?

I am! I am on the waiting list and decided to make the most of it. In January I started working out 5-6 times a week. First it was just cardio, however I had a family friend fall down last month. I tried to lift her and was sucessful, but I suddenly realized that I need to get my arms in shape! Sooo... I am now working on my upper body strength as well. It is very important to me to be a "fit" nurse in order to help my future patients.

I am down 20 lbs and have 40 more to go to get to my "lean weight" I am doing weight watchers.

Anyone else getting fit?

Re: Anyone getting in shape?

hey, i just started intense exercising on a regular not too long ago! i only do cardio about 3 to 4 times a week. i would like to start some resistance training for my upper body though (arms, shoulders, back). i think it's also important to strengthen the core. as far as my arms go, i think they're in decent shape (from holding a 20 pound baby like all the freakin time! haha) but they could be better!

what i really need to do is watch my eating! i used to be a nut about what i ate, but now i'm back to old ways.

Re: Anyone getting in shape?

Yep, I got on a fitness and health kick about 7 weeks ago. I started by brisk walking in place (with the help of exercise TV), and finally got up to about 4 miles in about 50 minutes. I've just recently begun using hand weights for upper body resistance training. And I've been on the South Beach Diet for 1 week tomorrow! First two days were full of cravings, but now it's good. Low carb, high protein for the first two weeks, then slow introduction of GOOD carbs the next two weeks... I like it, and my clothes are looser!

Watching my diet and running again.

I'm already a nurse, though, not pre-nursing. May I still play?

Congratulations on your weight loss!
Exercise has been an important part of my life since I quit smoking ca. 10 years ago. I am in the best shape of my life and work out daily. Without it I don't think I would have chosen to tackle nursing at my age It definitely makes a difference in my life. A good way to get upper body strength and nice firm arms is to do push ups....start out with 3 sets of 15 every other day. start out doing them on your knees and gradually attempt them on your toes
Good luck and keep up the good work!

WElcome, please, please share your workout routines. I also "run" well....jogg 3-4 miles at least 3X a week and found it the most affective when it comes to bodyfat control! I just don't seem to get the same results doing any other cardio exercises.

I just run. This morning I felt good so I went around three miles. It was cool, and pleasant. Tomorrow I might go two on the treadmill. It depends. I just try to do a little something 5 out of 7 days.

Oh, and at this level of chubbitude I wog - it's a cross between a waddle and a jog.

a cross between a waddle and a jog.....that's cute!!!!! Hey, whatever works! Who cares!!!!! I sometimes run on the treadmill at the gym, too. I also have a stationary bike at home for those rainy days.
Afterall we are not in a competition, we are doing it for ourselves, to feel better and to stay healthy! Keep up the good work, 5-7 days is GREAT!!!!!!
