Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

Hey everyone,

I'm still fairly new to this site. I haven't posted much, since I just joined, but I've been reading lots and lots - even before I joined.

I just wondered, are any of you getting ready to apply for Fall 2009? I'm working on finishing up my first degree, and planning to apply to an accelerated program to get my BSN in two years.

I'm volunteering at a local hospital, reading books (have any of you read Tilda Shalof's Story of a Nurse? It's really good!), and getting some early studying in for the Anatomy and Physiology class that I need to do next semester as a pre-requisite. I need to apply this winter, but I'm just trying to get an early start on things, especially in the summer, while I'm not at school (working, though).

For those of you that are getting ready to apply, what are you doing to get ready?

I just thought we could support each other while we're working out way through the application process!

Re: Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

Hi Carine. I live in Ga and would like to be able to begin NS in Fall 2009. I plan to enroll in at least one pre-req this summer and start applying like crazy once I find out what all the deadlines and requirements are for the programs I'd like to attend. More than anything I'll be praying every step of the way! I'm also thinking about taking a CNA course this summer (it's 11 days) and becoming a CNA to get my feet wet in the nursing field and to see how I like working with patients, nurses, docs, families, etc. I want to go into this whole process with my eyes wide open and see if I'm really cut out for this. I'm excited about starting this journey and seeing where it'll end up...

Re: Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

I started getting myself in preparation for applying into nursing in Jan this year. Started CNA in Jan, and taking 2 pre-req classes since Feb. I will enrol for 3 classes for summer. If i do not go into LVN this year, i will continue to take other pre-req/health science classes in fall and spring next year to get ready to join a RN program.

I am glad that I hv made a decision to put my nursing studies into action.
For me, starting a new career means starting all over as the degree I already have is entirely different and does not count. Everything I learn now is new to me. It is not easy ... alot of effort, time and commitment but I am enjoying what I am doing. Exams do freak me out and I think it is from the stress of getting good grades.

I take it that if I want something so bad, I must be willing to pay the price to earn it. So I am investing my time and effort in a career that I know will bring me a whole lot of meaning and purpose in life.

Re: Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

Hello everyone. I am from Las Vegas and also hoping to be accepted into the Fall 2009 program. I will be taking Communication and Sociology over the summer and Micro in the Fall. I have taken all the others I just need these 3 to apply. I also have to take the NLN-RN. I hope to be accepted. I need to study for the NLN. I did my CNA program last January 07. I liked it but some of the nurses were not very friendly unfortunatley. Hope to get to you know you all.

Re: Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

I will be applying for an ADN program for Fall 09. I've taken all of my pre-reqs except Statistics but I have to retake A&P1 because it has been 11 years since I took it the first time. I'm taking these classes this summer, then CNA this fall. I'll apply in January.

As far as prep, right now I'm finding as many online resources to help me with my A&P and Stats classes. I am reading A&P for Dummies and Statistics Demystified. Then I'll work on preparing for the CNA class.

I haven't decided whether I'll work as a CNA or not, I know it would be good prep but I'm able to study at my current job so I may just keep this job so I have more study time during nursing school.

Re: Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

I am applying for Fall 2009 as well! I too am taking the Summer off for my sanity. This Fall I am taking A&P I, Chem, Stats, and Psych. In Spring I am taking A&P II, Micro, Sociology, and Human Growth and Dev. Those are the only classes I have left before applying for Fall '09 over Summer. Oh yeah and I have to take the NAT before I apply. That's a lot of work to get done in two semesters before I work on my application over Summer... but I'm ready for it!!! Glad to see I'm not the only one that's thinking about applying almost a year before it actually happens. NS is always on my mind.

Re: Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

I have to have my application in by February, so it's not quite a year for me. We're supposed to have them in as soon as possible before February, though, so mine will be going in at the start of January, meaning I have about nine months to get it all together!!

Thanks for all the replies.

Do you guys know if you have to go through an interview? My school gets about 600 applications, interviews about 200 and then only takes about 60!!!

Re: Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

Yes, I'm one of the group for BSN. Will take Dev Psych and Nutrition in June, then A&P 1 in the fall, A&P 2 in the spring, apply for NS (which has interviews and TEAS, takes 50 students/semester), Micro next summer. Hope to start NS in Fall '09. Best of luck to all of us.

Re: Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

I live in the Atlanta area and there are so many nursing programs here it doesn't make any sense. They all have different pre-req requirements, different extrance exams, and different criteria for where you have to be in terms of having your pre-reqs done before you apply. I remember that at least one of the schools here requires an interview, but i can't remember which one. Maybe Uni of West GA I think. For those of you in cities with numerous choices for nursing school, how do you decide which programs to apply to when they all have different pre-reqs? Most have the same basic ones (like A&P I and II, Micro), but for the ones that have some that the others don't (ie Psych, Sociology, Nutrition, Chem I and II, etc) do you just do all of them to give you a broader range of schools to apply to?
