I know I need to get some volunteer experience & this summer will be my only chance, but I feel like I need some down time or I will burn out. Also, I can't afford to pay for camp or a babysitter while I am volunteering (aka not getting paid). I just don't know how important the volunteer experience is versus the life experience I already have. Anyone else having a hard time with this sort of thing?
Oh, for sure! I would love to take classes this summer, and continue the volunteer job I already have....but I have no childcare for the summer. So, I guess this summer, school is 'on hiatus' for me. I, too, feel like I need some down time. Take it! You have four children and are a full-time student!? I have a hard time with just 1 kid. Take a well-deserved break this summer. Perhaps look for volunteer opportunities or internships next fall.

I'm completely new here, and am working on applying for nursing school for 2009. I'm scared and nervous, but I'm really just a worry wart in general. I just wonder what I'll do if I don't get in, but then again my grades are good so I guess I shouldn't stress AS much.
My boyfriend is beginning to think I am crazy..lol

Wow, I go on holiday for awhile, and come back to 4 pages of posts!! Best of luck everyone! I hope that your preparations are going well!
Leena,
You sound a lot like me. I tend to get super stressed and worry about everything. My finace is a huge help to me, because he reminds me that stressing won't help. Plus, he's a medical student, so he's a huge help to me when I have questions. I hope that your boyfriend is a source of support for you. If he knows how badly you want to do this, I'm sure that he will want to help you in any way he can.

Ice chick...
I tried to do this 14 years ago with 4 kids. I didn't get through it. Now is my second attempt. I had my 4th, and when she was a newborn, I was up in the night with her trying to console her and memorize drug classifications and adverse reactions...it was CRAZY
I ended up needing a higher score on my final than what I got..a mere .5 point. BUT...they give no acceptions. So I went out for 2 1/2 years, and waltzed right into surgical technology. What an education that has been!
I'm really hoping that with all that I've "picked up" I can do alot better this time.
Good luck to you..I know what having that many children means.

I'm applying in the Fall of 2009 for the University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan BSN program.
I have to take A&P 1, Organic/Bio Chemistry, Sociology 101, and an easy computer course this Fall. Then I have to take A&P 2 and Philosophy 101 (pre-req for required ethics course) in the Winter/Spring of 2009. Then I have to take Microbiology and Ethics in the summer of 2009. Its alot of work and I'm pretty scared but I'll be able to apply for the Fall of 2009!
Not bad for someone who started college in the Fall of 2008 right! Then again all that matters is grades so I better get back to studying LOL! Good luck to everyone!!

I feel the same way!! One min I think ok this isn't so bad I can do it. The next I am pulling my hair out thinking I won't get in because I haven't taken every class on the planet. I thought the desion to go back to school was hard, ha I laugh at that moment now

I'm applying for Fall 2009. So far I only have 2 prerequisites finished (Chem and Developmental Psych), but I'm taking 4 courses over the summer, 4 courses in the fall, and I'll have space for whatever program I get in to's specific prerequisites (Drexel wants a computer science class, Penn wants a 2nd semester of Bio, Jeff wants another semester of Chem).
I'm nervous- mostly about how I will pay for school: the current state of the economy will effect my ability to get a private loan, the state ended it's loan forgiveness program, and my Stafford loan will be tapped by the time I finish prerequisites.

Hi poster,
The nursing school I am applying for [by] Aug 31, 08 is Charity School of Nursing (partnered with Delgado CC) for an ASN degree.
Upon completion I plan to bridge over to LSU's BSN program for my own personal satisfaction and because I am really interested in the master's degree options.
The minimum requirements too apply are:
Algebra
English Comp I
A&P I + Lab
Psychology
I am taking AP I over the summer so I can apply in August for fall 0f 2009.
The other requirements may be completed during nursing school [if you are insane] or before entry.. which I plan to do in fall 08 and spring 09.
CSN also requires the TEAS entrance exam.. which I will be taking next month.. the study guide is really helping!
I'm really excited!
Welcome to this site and the pre-nursing board.. there are so many wonderful and helpful people you will find.. I could spend hours reading!

Hi All,
I too will be applying for fall 2009. I was in a program this past spring, but failed fundamentals by 1.9 points . Although, I am very disappointed I do understand where I fell short and will work on those areas. I believe that everything happens for a reason so I will continue to move forward. Unfortunately, I cannot return to the same school; I will be applying to at least 5 schools ( PBISN and LICH are my prefrence). I've completed all my prereqs, so I am studying my old fundamentals book to enhance my "critical thinking" skills, which is the main reason I failed.
Good Luck Everyone, God willing this time next year we will all be nursing students .
