Thanks and Congrats to you! June 2nd will be here before you know it!

Clinical shifts are from 7am-3pm or 3pm-11pm and are on all different days of the week (including weekends) depending on what group you're in. You do have to get there early before your shift and stay after to meet with your clinical instructor each time for conference, so it is a bit longer than 8hrs. (also depends on your instructor). You can switch as long as you find someone in another group that wants to swap with you.

Re: Anyone else applying to OU's accelerated BSN program in San Diego?

Thanks for all the great information everyone! I am looking into this program too, but I still need all my nursing pre-reqs. I have a meeting with them next week to find out what I need to do to get in.

I am wondering if anyone knows about this program's accreditation in California. I can't find anything saying it is CA BRN approved or whether the school is accredited by WASC. Once I get my BSN, I will probably go on for an MSN, but I think most MSN programs in California require you to have a degree from a WASC accredited school. Does anyone know more about this? I am still in the research stages so all this is still really confusing to me!!

Thanks!

They told us that they have received approval from the BRN through SDSU and Southwestern College. Here is the website for the BRN : http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/onlineprograms.shtml
Hope this helps!!

The program itself is challenging because it is constant...no breaks or down time. You go from basic skills in health assessment to beginning clinicals and learning how to care for wounds, maintaining IVs and giving meds! I can't believe how much I know now compared to when I started 4 months ago! The online portion requires self-discipline. You have read and manage your time so that you finish all of the reading and leave time to take the quizzes on-line before the time deadlines. It is stressful and frustrating at times but

As for people dropping I think that everyone that dropped did so before we started the semester because I never heard of anyone dropping once we started and there are 65 or so of us.
Hope this helps your curiosity!
Hi CaringBella!

Thanks for the great info! I'm starting in June as well. So far every current student I have talked to says to keep up with the reading. How many pages a week, would you say you need to read? Also, do you get a 2 week break between now & the Summer semester or are you in a class?

Re: Anyone else applying to OU's accelerated BSN program in San Diego?

Did you already get the OK from the academic counselor that you are going to be starting in June? I was hoping to start in January but my pre-req won't be done till the end of Fall 2008 semester and I recently just got an e-mail saying all the pre-req have to be done before turning in my application. So that means I would have to wait till June to start also, but that doesn't mean I get in for sure. So I was just wondering if you already got approve to start the program in June?

Re: Anyone else applying to OU's accelerated BSN program in San Diego?

I have been admitted to the June 2008 program so I'll be starting June 2nd. I have a friend who is also interested in OU & was hoping to apply for January, but she won't be able to after all for the same reason. She will still be taking prereq's next fall as well.

Re: Anyone else applying to OU's accelerated BSN program in San Diego?

Hi! I'm just about to start my second semester. I have a little one who will be one this week. The program takes up a lot of time. I was originally told only two to three days a week, so my husband and I thought it was a perfect program. It turned out to be a lot more. It can be done, but it takes time, determination, and a lot of support. Be sure you have someone (or many people) to support you and that they understand this is an accelerated program. It will take most of your attention!

We have a 3 week break between spring and summer semester but we have a course to complete during that time (I've been working on that for the past two weeks!) As far as reading, there's so much I have no idea how many pages...it varies per week per class but it's A LOT. Hope you're ready, June 2nd is just around the corner! Best of luck!
