Yes, I applied for this program. I'm waiting for their acceptance letter this April for Fall 2008. Did you apply for the program yet? I just need to send my official transcript from my last pre-req last Fall for Microbiology before Feb 1. I would love to hear from you.

Hi Kensington,

The SFSU program is an Accelerated program through Canada College here in the Bay Area. The program is one-half yr to complete, and its 5 semesters long with no breaks. After you complete the program, you have a BSN in nursing, and eligible to take the NCLEX exam.

I went to their Information session last year, and they only accept 40 students per year out of about 200-300 applicants. They are very competitive, so I recommend to get really good grades in the sciences, and never repeat them.

Hi There!

Sorry about the delay. Now that I am in the program, I check this site very little as I have no time. You will hear from the program about early April. I know the wait is pure torture…you will know this is you read my other posts here. It is extremely competitive...only 40 are accepted and about 250 apply. (And, unfortunately, the competitiveness doesn’t end after you get in - however, the few that are crazy competitive are few and far between and they show themselves pretty early…I just avoid them like the plague). While they do prefer RWC residents, I got accepted without living in San Mateo County (I live in Santa Clara County). As long as you have a very high GPA and volunteering etc., you have a good chance, but they turned away many 4.0's for our cohort....they really want well-rounded people.

You actually don't have to work for Sequoia when your done (I didn’t realize this when I applied, I thought you HAD To work there). Now that I think about it, it's not possible - there are 40 grads and not 40 spots when we graduate. Actually, I’m glad b/c while Sequoia is a great hospital (and there are many great people that work there), I really don’t want to work there. Personal reasons.

I took off the 1st semester (meaning no job = no income) and took out a living loan. I suggest you do this (if financially possible) to get used to the work, b/c BELIEVE me - it's time consuming - and it will only get worse. It's not that the material is super hard - there's just a lot to learn. You need to have medical insurance - which some of us found hard (esp. with no job) - so start looking for cheap plans.

If, for some reason, you do not get in I suggest you reapply. Many people in our program had applied after previously being rejected. The program is good but since it's relatively new, they have kinks to work out. If you get in you will be in "Cohort 5" and we in "Cohort 4" can help you with anything. Good Luck to you!!!

I also applied for the canada sfsu program. They sent out false acceptance letters to about 80 people, including me. I was so excited, but found it hard to believe. Then I called them to make sure and they said they accidently sent out a bunch of letters. This is b/c SF state sends out acceptance letters to most applicants in most programs, but this year somebody messed up and sent them out in the nursing impacted major which was a mistake. It was horrible. But they told me I would hear back by April. And yes, the chances of getting in are quite slim. Sad but true.

That happened to me, too! Booooo.

Wasn't that horrible! We should get in just for going through that, and for them making such a big mistake!
