For those of you applying to Temple College; what are your GPA's? For anyone already in the program, what was your GPA when you were accepted? I'm starting to panic again.....

just jumping in here.........

I'm currently finishing my associates degree in another area then I will be retaking Anatomy and Physiology since mine are over 5 years old. I too will be applying to ACC and Temple, but since I will already have and Asc degree I'm really interested in Texas State's program (although not having much luck getting info ). Can't wait till I'm actually in the program....I've been working on this off and on for 17 years gawd........but I'm actually seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

As far as GPA goes.... mine for Temple is 3.8 and 3.7 for ACC.

Last year I didn't get into Temple w/ a 3.4 gpa but I did horribly on the NET and that brought my score WAAAAY down so it's not just about GPA.

For the love of christmas I'm just tired of waiting!!!!

I think Temple usually sends letters mid to late May and I hear rumors that ACC should be sending something out in the next 2 weeks for the first 100-130 students accepted. They may take more than that if they get additional staff but I don't think we'll know if that happens until June.

Good luck to all of you out there! Hopefully, we'll all know something soon :-)

Re: Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008

I applied to ACC for Fall 2008. I just finished the Nursing Skills class today.
If you want an awesome Microbiology instructor, I can recommend the absolute BEST teacher I have ever had. I can also recommend for reviews of all teachers and grade histories go to Pickaprof.com.

My Anatomy teacher was the absolute WORST teacher I have ever had. He got horrible reviews on this Pick a prof site.

I live in Pflugerville and am thinking about trying the distance learning option for the nursing program. Does anyone know what the hours are like on this? Also I heard from my Nursing Skills Instructor that last term, HALF of the people doing this distance learning option FAILED. Something must be wrong, because students don't get this far to fail.

Does anyone have recommendations on how to get reliable child care in the area? I am a single mom with a sixteen year old boy, very reliable and trustworthy, does not drive, but is very very busy with extracurriculars. A 10 year old very responsible girl, a boy age 7 who needs good adult supervision, and a low key sweet 5 year old boy.

What kind of child care do I need to secure? How much do I need to pay someone?

Has anyone finished the Nursing Skills class and got a job at a local hospital with the GAIN program?

I am also thinking of applying to Texas Tech's web based 2nd bachelor's program. Does anyone know how this program is?

Summer semester I will take Nutrition and Sociology distance learning, and if I get into the Nursing Program for Fall, I will also take Medical terminology and Pathophysiology. Does anyone know how hard any of these classes are? I was going to try to take these distance learning too.

Barbara

Re: Anyone applying to ACC (Austin Community College) or Temple College for Fall 2008

Hey, taffy,

I'm in anatomy now, but I'm curious about your professor. Also, I'm taking micro either this summer or in the fall. Can you PM me and let me know who these folks are?

Since I'm not in the program, I don't have first-hand experience about the child care. But I'm thinking a college student might work for you. If your son is capable of watching the kids part of the time, and what you mainly need is transportation, perhaps a college student could pick them up and drop them off, maybe help with homework. Also, there are some after-school programs like Extend-a-Care and the Y at schools. Some are good; some not.

You may also be able to enlist a friend to help out, perhaps in some kind of child care exchange?

It's definitely a lot harder to get by as a parent, not to mention a single parent. I don't know how you do it. I have one ten-year-old girl and a husband who helps out a lot, and it's still stressful.

I've heard the same about the distance learning program. I don't know anyone who's done that, but I think some people just aren't disciplined enough for that. My limited experience with nursing students in prereqs is that many don't study or study very little and seem half serious about it. Perhaps distance learning doesn't provide enough accountability for them.
