They also have a huge list for the points which I guess makes it better for the "well rounded" student.
The point system legally protects the school. The point system doesn't know if you are black or white, single or married, children or no children, so if they go by that, they don't have to worry about someone standing up and screaming that they were not considered fairly.

Same here my college only accpets once a year but luckly there are 3 other cc's that are close by one being an hour drive but well worth it. So I have my back up plan ready to go just in case.

Re: Anyone afraid of not getting in?

I am turning into a literal psych case. Only on an anonymous board like this - would I admit it. My family is sick of hearing about it. My friends don't understand why it's competitive to get into nursing school with the nursing shortage. I swear they think I'm exaggerating or something. They do try to understand.

I'm applying to two BSN programs. One takes 1/6 applicants. The other takes 1/5 applicants. I'm getting on waitlists for a couple of ADN programs too. But the wait is 3 years for the CC in my city.

Really I worry about this so much. I don't like uncertainty. It's hard to know what to do with the lease on my condo.

I work so hard to maintain my 4.0. I've made myself sick too many times from lack of sleep. I work. I have to volunteer both in healthcare and in another sort of community service volunteer work. One BSN program nearly requires its applicants to be members of their snobby sorority-like pre-nursing club which requires attendance at meetings one night EVERY week. So help me G-d I'm about to snap. I think maybe I should see a therapist. Seriously. Thank goodness for the annonymity of the internet. I wouldn't say all this in person very easily.

Today I had a flash in my mind that astonished me. I thought for a second...why don't I just switch majors to something like biochemistry and work in a lab. Chuck nursing. That terrified me because I've been 100% sure about nursing for so long. I dismissed the thought, but it just shocked me.

You know, it just baffles me how many people just don't have a clue about how competitive it is to get into nursing school, and what it is that we need to do to get there.....they look at you like you're crazy if you tell them. Another thing...if I share that I want to be a nurse the first thing that I am usually asked is..."Are you going for LVN?!?!? I answer, "No, I want to become an RN" then they go "Oooh...." Somebody here have an explanation for that one??? What's wrong with wanting to become an RN????
Hey working in a lab as a lab technician may just not even be such a bad idea, one of our Community Colleges offers an excellent program and I may just jump on it if I don't get into nursing school Lab technicians do more than just dipping sticks in urine..... I have started to really like all that histology and I have become a good "microscope operator" during my A&P and Micro classes

I can't switch from nursing. I was just shocked that the thought popped into my head. I may have to move to attend a nursing program that I really don't like - but I'll do it if I have to.

Re: Anyone afraid of not getting in?

I really want to get into a BSN program, but if I don't I'm going to go to a community college. I don't want to wait another year of not making any money. Then once I start working I can go back to get my BSN. I can only apply to one BSN program because they all have such different requirements. If I took all the pre-reqs for all the schools, I would be in school for many more years. I am going to apply to one BSN program and a couple community colleges. That way I have some kind of choice (hopefully I will get into one of the schools!).

Re: Anyone afraid of not getting in?

I just took my test on Saturday and I think I did horrible. But now I wait for a couple of weeks until I get my scores. I was ready to cry when I left the college. But, at this point, what can I do. Either I get in or I don't. All I can do is pray that I do get in because after Spring Semester, I'm done with all other classes.

Re: Anyone afraid of not getting in?

Yeah, I'm pretty terrified. I try not to worry but I can't help it. I moved all the way to Oregon to attend a college that had a great nursing program, much to my dismay they changed the pre-reqs credit hours from 35-45, and started a waiting list that is 2-3 years long now. So I'm moving back to my home state and applying to the colleges there. But now the courses I took at the other college are not valid towards my degree so next semester I have to take new pre-reqs. All this and the competition I'm facing really has me freaked out.

Smile Re: Anyone afraid of not getting in?

Wow. Good luck to all of you. You are very persistent and I wish you all the very best.

Guess I am lucky. I got into both local RN programs I applied to. One is a diploma program and the other a BSN. I am going the BSN route. I already have a BS with a lot of classes in Biology.. so that helps out a lot. I hear all these stories about wait-lists and people moving around then taking the pre-reqs. and gosh.. that is something else. Wow.

The BSN is a lot more expensive, but I really want the BSN as one day I hope to move up into research or management. Plus I already have a degree, so that works out well for me.

I know you all are waiting to get in... but here is something to think about also... once you get in... you HAVE TO PAY to go. Think about loans, scholarhips, etc. School no matter where you go, is EXPENSIVE!! Don't forget to think about the financing of RN school! I am learning that now and man it costs an arm and a leg!! LOL! So don't forget the money to go!!!!!!!!!

Take care all and GOOD LUCK!! Epona
