Need Information - any advice please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi I will be starting my pre-reqs this fall 08 and was wondering what was a good humanities class to take. The cc i am attending has biomedical ethics which I think would be good for nursing but would critical thinking be better? what has every one here taken? any advice would be appreciated.

Re: any advice please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of people i have spoken with in nursing school say that many of the tests they take have a great deal of critical thinking in them. I know nursing itself involves a lot of critical thinking. I took a critical thinking philosophy class and found that it helped a great deal in my other classes, especially classes like micro. It is up to you, but i would say you should probably lean towards taking a critical thinking class.

I don't know if would make anything lean one way or the other for you for getting into a program. I think the more general aspect of the critical thinking course would be your better option.
Are you planning on going into an associate program or getting your AA and transferring to a BSN program? If it's the latter you can take the biomedical ethics as an elective.

Re: any advice please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the input, I am really interested in the biomedical ethics but i do think that critical thinking will help so I think that I will take both classes. Just not at the same time!!! I am planning on getting my AA and then going back for my bsn.. so maybe taking the biomedical would help me in the end. thanks again!

Re: any advice please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi! I am also starting my pre-reqs this fall. I noticed you said your are going for your AA then go for your BSN. I'm new to the college world... but are you going for a AS in nursing instead of AA? The reason why I ask is that there is a long process to get into the RN program, so as I work on my pre-reqs for nursing I will also work on my AA degree in business. Can you help me to understand?

Re: any advice please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm sorry i didnt mean to confuse you-i meant an AAS which will ultimately get me to get my RN, then eventually after i get a job I want to go for my BSN. For me and my family it makes more sense for me to get my ASN 1st. sorry for the confusion!

Re: any advice please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One piece of advice. Regarding GE units, make sure that the units transfer to all of the colleges you're planning on applying to. I'm taking 9 units this summer in order to graduate in Dec. BECAUSE I didn't research all of the area nursing schools proprietary systems (I got into my third choice out of town). Cut ahead 1.5 years in the nursing program and Im taking a heavy summer load to graduate. Make sure WHATEVER humanities, speech, sociology, etc. are transferable and ACCEPTED by whatever NURSING PROGRAMS you're going to apply to because some nursing programs (as I can attest) have very specific classes they want you to take that aren't required at others. Good luck

Re: any advice please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is only 1 school in my area that has a nursing program, so i am taking the pre reqs that this school requires. There is a 4yr school about 1 hour away but I dont think I will going thru that. I will just wait until I get accepted to the community college near me. this school also has arrangement with some 4 year schools in nj that you can get your bsn at there. Traveling is not an option for me. Thanks.
