We are losing: younger students who appear to have multiple priorities -- partying, gambling, socializing, and partying -- did I mention partying?; a few who I think had English-as-a-second language issues; a couple of young moms who realized that they really couldn't or didn't want to invest the time at this point; two students who "didn't know nurses had to do
that!!".
I know a couple of students who WANT this who are borderline. I don't know if they have test-anxiety or don't spend the time studying or can't comprehend or what....but they're eeking it out each semester so far...
It is eerily similar to what I was about to write. If you are doing well prior to entering the upper div of your BSN program, then you WILL pass the upper div. If you are unable to last 6 consecutive 24 hour periods without attending a bar crawl or drinking something that came from a keg/ice luge, then you might not. However, in my program, the hard workers get A's and B's, the partyers get C's and I guess my program just lets the NCLEX sort us all out in the end.
I'm graduating in Dec. and we've lost 4 out of 60. The only ones who didn't pass were people who straight up DID NOT ATTEND clinical days. Seriously, if you care as much as you seem to, you will thrive and enjoy the upper division. Best wishes!
