Am I alone? Please tell me I am not!

I finished up my pre-reqs and I have applied to my school of choice, however Santa Ana college has a mandatory wait list. I am told that it is a 1-1.5 year wait (I am on their priority list)

Anyone else applying to schools with a mandatory waitlist (meaning no lotteries, no immediate start for excellent grades) Anyone on Santa Ana's Wait list?

I feel like I am getting left behind with so many people on here getting acceptance letters.

My general ed is complete.. was thinking about doing my CNA or maybe taking the classes for a lab tech. (and enjoying my kids while waiting)

thanks.. I just need to make sure that there are others in my situation...

Hey there... I don't know if we have a "wait list" but we have to apply for early acceptance before October to be accepted for the following fall. And in order for you to apply for early acceptance you must have all the pre-reqs complete... grade C or better... high GPA... CNA certification and 6 elective credits.
If you don't have all of those... then the general application process is in Feb for the following fall. Those spots are only available if all the October spots aren't already full. UGG... I mean I guess it's good in that we know the best of the best should ultimetly get in there... but what a process...

Good luck to you! Maybe you could apply to another school close by?? Anyway.. good luck!

I think that sounds like a great plan (enjoying the kids ) I am going to apply for one school near me has a mandatory waitlist its huge (the list) about a 3yr wait, I am just putting me name in as a back up plan, which is probably why the list is so long so maybe lots of people are doing the same and I will get in before I think I will. I am also finishing up my pre reqs I am working on micro and AP2 now. My school takes you on your GPA I do have a 4.0 so I should be ok to get in, however they have just implemented an assessment test for admition, not a nursing entrance exam just an assessment that you can't really study for. I am not very strong in English so a little concerned with the test so I am doing a back up plan at the other school.

We have to wait a semester before applying so I will have the fall off I might take one class but I also plan on sticking around and enjoying the kids before I finish up and start working full time.

Re: Am I alone? Please tell me I am not!

My school doesn't have a "waiting list", if you don't get in one year you re-apply the next. The nursing programs only start in the fall, so you can't start mid-semester, even if someone drops out. They also don't look at grades (except the required C or better in some classes), so that stinks for me since I've been making all As, and scored really high on the TEAS as well.

Since I'm still finishing up my prereqs this semester, I think my chances of getting in this fall are slim. So I'll probably have a 1 1/2 year wait as well. There are still classes that I can take next year that are part of the nursing program so I'll get those out of the way, and I'm considering getting a pt job at the hospital also. We can use the money, and it would be good experience, although I imagine it would have to be more administrative in capacity because I don't have any experience, even to be a tech I think I'm not qualified.

But overall if I don't make it this year I'll try to look on the bright side and enjoy my last "time off" before having to go to work for many, many more years.

Re: Am I alone? Please tell me I am not!

I went through a community college and we had to apply around October to start the fall semester. We also had to go through interviews, take an enterance exam, we got additional points for GPA and CNA experience. The school also has part time programs so people were able to start during any semster. It kind of crazy to think that with all the hype on nursing shortages it would take 1-3 years to even get into a nursing program.

Re: Am I alone? Please tell me I am not!

thanks.. great attitudes! I was just getting jealous with the "I got in" threads...I just hate the feeling of being "left behind"

I am beating myself up over the one B I received (thinking that maybe if I had all A's instead of all A's and one B, then I could get in sooner) We can't retake classes.. what you get is what you get..(I asked)

I thought about goldenwest college.. I think I would have a better chance there.. but with 3 kids... I choose not to spend 3 hours a day in traffic (going and coming) my choice.. now hopefully other people on my list will apply to goldenwest (they accept over 200 students!) and get off my list.

thanks guys...

Re: Am I alone? Please tell me I am not!

Maricopa County, AZ-There are over 1,000 people on the "wait" list to get into about 12 different schools.. That means they are done with all the pre-req's they needed and got their fingerprints done... etc.... I have been done and wait-listed for 11 months and THINK I will get in for Fall 2007... Having waited a total of about 15 months....It stinks.. If I would of known this- I would of had another child while I was waiting...! Oh well.. I painted, I gardened, I read books and watched TV, I spent quality time with my family.. HANG IN THERE, and Good Luck...

Re: Am I alone? Please tell me I am not!

thank you so much! helps to know I am not alone.. I will probably be waiting as long as you have been waiting.. did it go by fast?

yep.. to get on our wait list, all pre-reqs must be completed + CPR card for the heathcare provider.. no fingerprints required yet..(but hey.. maybe that would disqualify some folks?.. dang.. this brings out the competitive nature in me!)

I am reading Barack's book right now.. plus a pathophysiology book (I bought several made incrediblly easy books.. just to keep it fresh) Going on vacation with my mom, friends, and my family.. might as well get some trips out of my system!

thanks guys!!

Re: Am I alone? Please tell me I am not!

I waited for a year to get into Santa Ana and enjoyed my last year of really being a stay at home mom. Wait it out for Santa Ana. It is great program with instructors who really care. I graduated almost 5 years ago and still keep in contact with a couple of the instructors. You will be glad you had one last year!!

Re: Am I alone? Please tell me I am not!

For my CC you don't have to have the pre-req's finished. Once you get all the paperwork completed you are given a seat in the next available class of about 100. When I applied in January the next class accepting was Fall 2008. This will let me finish up my ana/phys I & II and Micro and Statistics. I'm also going to take the cna program through continuing ed so I can work on Sat and Sun just to continue to have some of my own money. I could have gotten into the LPN program in Jan 2008, but I'd rather just go ahead and get my ADN. If I went for the LPN, I'd have to sit out two semesters before I could take the last 4 classes for ADN, so this way I'll finish sooner than if I went that route.
