Help! - Advice on how to finally get started in nursing (hybrid courses, maybe??)

Hello!

I just recently joined and I would like to go into nursing. I don't know what exactly to do because while I am living in GA at the moment, in five months I'll be moving back to NC.. There's a community college here that I can take some pre-nursing courses but they gave me a very open ended "maybe the credits will transfer" when I asked if this other community college in NC will take their credits. Should I wait for the five months and just start fresh at the the NC college or start here and risk not being able to transfer? I have a job lined up so I'm only planning on going to school part time..

Also, does anyone personally know of a hybrid/online course that I could do most of the prerequisites at that's based in NC? I would really appreciate the help and as of right now, I'm at a loss at what to do. I want to get my education started, but I'm not exactly sure how. My husband is in the military (currently deployed hence my being in GA) and he's coming home in five months. Maybe, I should just wait until I'm back there? I don't really know, this probably already looks confusing and it's just the tip of the iceberg of what's going through my head right now.

And to tack on another question here, how difficult is it to pass the CLEP exams to make up for college credits?

Re: Advice on how to finally get started in nursing (hybrid courses, maybe??)

Hey there,

If I were you, I'd go about this the other way around. Give the school in NC that you're interested in going to a call and ask if the courses you take at the CC in GA will transfer. There's no way the school in GA will know about what the NC school will accept, but the NC school will know what they will accept.

Did that make sense?

Best of luck!!

Peace,
Cathie

Re: Advice on how to finally get started in nursing (hybrid courses, maybe??)

Hi and welcome to the forum,
I was with my DH when he was stationed at Bragg in NC. We moved from there in '05 to go to Mo and all of my credits from Fayetteville Tech CC transfered. If you have the time now to take classess, I would suggest that you try and get some of them out of the way. Call the college you are going to attend and speak to the counselors, they can tell you yes or no to whether the school will accept transfers from the college you are attending in Ga. Where will you be attending school in NC?

Coastal Carolina Community College was what I was thinking about. It's right around the corner from where we live and convenient to get to =)

Call Coastal and see what pre-reqs you will need to take and get started! I'd also ask them whether their nursing program is based on points, grades, or first come first serve. It might make a difference on how many classes you take at one time. Good luck.
