? about prereqs, GPA and credit from "testing out"

Hi! The main school I'm applying to looks at GPA for prerequisites only. I need math, english, psychology, a human growth and development class, sociology or anthropology, organic and biochemistry, and anatomy and physiology. When I was enrolled before, I tested out of english and math based on my ACT scores. (This was 1996) I also had taken Calc I & II at a community college during my senior year of high school. I think I had an A and a B respectively, but don't remember. It's listed only as transfer credit on my transcript for this school. I didn't take class seriously then, and am now wishing I'd put more effort into it. I had a B in psychology and an upper level english class. I'm currently taking A&P and have an A so far, but it's from only 1 exam. I'm hoping to get the rest taken care of Fall semester. I'm also trying to figure out if I should pick up the extra classes I'd need to apply to another school's nursing program at the same time.

Knowing how competitive it is to get into nursing programs, if you were me, would you take another math class hoping to boost your prerequisite GPA? Do you know if they would use the grade from my upper level english class for my prerequisite GPA or would it simply be noted that I met that requirement via testing? They have my Calc grades on record somewhere, would they use those also or simply note that I've met that requirement? I want to make sure I have the highest GPA I can possibly have to boost my chances of acceptance.

Thank you!
Tiffany

Every school counts GPA differently. You really need to talk to the programs you're applying to. Usually a counselor can answer these types of questions.

Thanks... I've talked to the College of Health and Human Services a few times over the phone and the person I spoke with was unable to answer the questions. I have an appointment with an advisor in 2 weeks. I suppose I should have asked what other school's policies were on this matter.

Thanks again!
Tiffany
